Hey all, figured I stop in and check things out. I picked up my 1999 Ram 2500 4x4 24v back in Oct 2008 with 56,000 miles on it. Now sitting at about 61,000 on it. Have not done a lot to the truck.
Had to replace the Evaporator Core as a/c was not holding a charge anymore in the spring of 2009. Also replaced drier and all the values and o-rings I could replace. Heater core also was replaced while I was in there this last summer.
Oil was changed to Amsoil 15W-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine Motor Oil. Need to change it soon and not sure what oil I'm going with this time. Truck seems to really like Amsoil. Was seeing about 19mpg on high , After changing the oil I am now seeing up to near 23. 5 - 24mpg on long trips (based on off the onboard trip computer)
Installed Westin Step Bars
I am looking to get a fuel gauge soon. I have one for a car, just need to figure out if I can use the gauge on the truck. It's a digital gauge with sending unit.
I just recently placed an order with Geno's and order Gates belt, Gates upper and lower radiator hoses and Killer dowel pin kit. Also a new oil filter Fleetguard Stratapore and new drain plug and extra gasket. I have also have a WIX Fuel filter and trans filter kit waiting for warmer weather.
I believe the truck was using for as a family vacation vehicle as its setup to tow a 5th wheel (don't have the hitch, but the bars are still in the bed). I found sand and dog hair in everything. The Evaporator was full of dog hair! Both doors have rusted lips (looks like a common problem) and will need to take care of that this year. Pass side door looks like it was hit with a baseball about 20times. . Truck was registered in Maryland all its life. I found this info out from carfax. I found papers down between the seats from the outer banks and myrtle beach, so guessing it saw some beach action over the years. The front struts are pretty beat and I need to get an alignment. Maybe this spring. It's pretty much my bad weather vehicle. I'm a dodge family and have a small car lot here.
The body is not perfect, It's got dings and chips. Looks like pine sap or bird crap was on the paint for a while. Little dent on the roof, but it does what I need! Maybe I'll give it a garage paint job some day. Also found mouse droppings up on the top of the motor so guessing it sat for some time.
I really ****** myself off this summer while changing the Evaporator core out (I did it by myself by lifting the dash up and out of the way) . While reinstalling everything. I didn't have the dash on all the way and when I screwed the last screw, up near the windshield, I cracked the dash! I think this truck was the only one without a cracked dash!!
I also own :
1987 Shelby Lancer
1985 Shelby Charger
2004 Neon SRT4
1997 Mercy Tracer
I bought my dad a 2007 Dodge Nitro. So that's also parked at the house most of the time. (I moved my parents in with be a couple years ago as they are up in age)
I love the truck very much. Been wanting to join here for awhile and today at work I broke down and joined.
