Is "red" diesel harmful?

Just got in from the Mopar Nat's in Ohio (been up for 22+ hours now, so dont crucify me for any blunders)... not all its cracked up to be in Ohio. When Indy hosted it, there were 3 times as many cars/people etc. Oh well.

The neatest thing (to me) there was that silver Powerwagon concept truck. Got to crawl around and check it out. I layed on the ground and looked at the powerplant since they would not open the hood. She has a CAT in there. Not sure exactly what it is, maybe a 3116 or 3126. Anyway, who cares. Heres the big deal:

The guy in charge was checking me out crawling under it and approached me. We started talking (he wouldnt confirm what I already knew about the brand of engine in that truck for now) about trucks, diesels etc (he smiled when he found out I worked for CAT, kind of like a kid does when he gets cought red handed in the cookie jar).

I asked when this thing was going to get started up in production. He said that the Germans are a little more conservative about NPI (New Product Introduction) compared to the old ChryCo. His words... "in order for this thing to take off, everyone who wants to see this truck on dealer lots needs to flood Chryslers web site demanding this truck go into full production. " He said the germans think it wouldnt sell, and he has been telling everyone who asks about it to send emails off to DC.

So I will do so after I get some shut eye. If you like the truck, do the same. If you have no idea what I am talking about, maybe someone with some computer skills can post a good pic of it on here for you to see and decide for yourself. This is how the PT Cruiser and Viper started off he said. People started flooding Corporate with demands for these vehicles, and after they saw there was a true intrest, they started making them.

I figure this is the biggest Dodge turbo truck site on the net, and since this thing could be in our driveway some day, we might as well give them our thoughts. Its up to people like us to give this thing a jumpstart. The whiteshirts in Germany could care less. All ready... ATTACK!!!!!!!

Big Bob... thanks for the link... it worked well.

BCFast... I would prefer the Cummins, maybe they will have some options???

I have long said... I love that concept Power Wagon!

From what i've read about it, the 7. 2L I6 is supposed to have 790 ft-lbs in OTR trim... @ what RPM I dunno.

Chad: how expensive and difficult would it be to bomb one of those yellow engines?

With all respect to my great employer... I agree, please no yellow iron. Too hard to bomb, and those 3126/3116 dont seem to have the power capabilitys of our Cummins. I doubdt it will ever see a cummins either though. Since DC bought out Detroit Diesel, seems they might try some DD/CAT/Mercedes diesel hybird. I know they (DC) were developing a fuel system with CAT over in europe for experimental research. Who knows. They can put a 318 in it for all I care, that truck is awesome looking. Whatever they do decide to put in it will be a mechanical engine, and as long as there is guys like us around, nothing is bomb proof.

I am off to send a "PLEASE BUILD" letter to DC now.

I'm all for this thing and the "power box" alike, but why do the DC people have to shove a $6500, high torque engine in a truck that only has an 8. 25" rear?

Chad, correct me if I'm wrong, they may have changed things on it since I read the write-up on it in four wheeler.

Joesoot, that smile thing you have above you screen name kills me evey time LOL! :D

BTW, the PW concept is a low emmisons engine. It is Pure Propane powered. I doubt there will be a LP version for sale for a while.

I may have seen this truck in the field

I have repeatedly seen 3 trucks completely shrouded in flack jackets this summer. Yesterday, I finally got close enough to one for a better check. The mirrors, hood shape, and grill (as viewed through screen) appear to be Dodge, but the fuel door was too far forward. The tail light appeared to be Dodge. Looking again at the concept vehicle, that may be one I got close to. I hope to catch them with the digital in the next couple weeks. Then you can be the judge.

Here is the reply I received from DC... .

Dear Rob:

Thank you for your recent e-mail expressing interest in the Dodge Power Wagon.

Unfortunately, because this vehicle is still in the concept stage, there is no pricing or production data available.

In the past some of our concepts have made it to production, such as the Plymouth Prowler, Dodge Viper, and the Chrysler PT Cruiser. I have documented your interest and will forward it to the product planning department.

You can also go to http://www.(insert brand site name here).com, select "Inside or World of (brand name)" and then "concept". You will be able to view information on current concept cars and the possible future availability of them.

Thank you again for your interest.

Auto-responders are a wonderful thing... lets ya respond but ignore the emails!:D :D

Maybe they will at least tally up the number of responses???:(

well If anyone reads this old thread, let it be known that I logged on to DC website about powerwagon at above address and told them to contact me at work and gave them the number... . sure enough, a rep called the next day and i hounded them about building the powerwagon/ what the new engine was gonna be/ still gonna build a 5. 7 hemi charger, ect... so i guess at least one real person at DC knows my mind!:D
