Code 0713 ( Decreased Engine Performance Due to Overheating Condition) was found using the ign. key deal last thursday after trans would not shift into 2nd by itself. I believe I have corrected the trans issue.
Discovered the batteries were almost dead when I cleaned the terminals.
They have been replaced. I also replaced the thermostat and found the rubber insulator had come apart. Thinking this was the reason for the 0713 code. I have never over heated, I've had engine coolant temp up to 230 -240 But never higher.
After replacing the thermostat, the gauge shows 180 ish. No higher than 190 pulling my (3500lbs. gross) trailer full of mowers, up our Middle Tenn. hills.
Now I noticed the factory volt gauge shows about 12v before I start the motor, and 14v after it starts. It seems to always stay near 14v.
Truck starts quicker and trans is shifting perfect. I have not noticed any decreased performance from the motor.
I have relocated the oil breather bottle years ago, so it is not messing up the radiator. I clean the radiator fins at least once a month. It was not that dirty, but I cleaned them again today.
So what or where do I look next ???
