I think I might have a TPS going out. I have a Prac. solutions high idler and my dad was using it for a throttle smoother while driving off-road on a rough wash-board road, you know, and he said once it went only to idle, and nothing else then turned off the High idler and got the throttle back but the check engine light is on now.

Did the 3 turns of the key and got P-0500. Is that the TPS?

No more problems with the throttle since the High idler has been off. I think it was just a hiccup in the electronics and it messed up...

0500 is not the throttle position sensor, it is the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) that seems to be a common code if you spin the tires alot. I get it all the time;)

The TPS is actually called the Accelerator pedal position sensor (APPS) on our trucks. I don't know why they changed the name, but that's what they call it on these trucks.

Thanks for the info on the code.

It was on a rough section where he was crossing over in some soft stuff so I guess it did a little spin and the comp. got confused... .

Started the truck 3 times and now the engine light is off and everything seems normal.

Thanks again

Eric
