New Propane Tank Regulations

It is reported that those swapped tanks are only filled to 75 or 80 percent of what they put in a tank that you have refilled. Another way to make extra money off on you. Weight one some time and compare that to the full weight listed on the tank. SnoKing

I heard it was only 50%. That said, when you need a new tank, it is still cheaper to do that than buy a new one. I did that last year. My BBQ tank had "expired" so with the advice of my propane seller, I just got one of the exchange tanks from Home Depot, and I just have it refilled by any propane seller.
 
Stopped by the local Amerigas today and they wanted $25 to recert a 30# tank. Told them to forget it and drove 2 miles down the road to CENEX and they did it for $5. and only charged 2.09/gal.

Cenex guy said that in WA it's still 12 years on a new tank and that they recently had a meeting about it with current info. Now I'm confused - I thought this was a federal regulation. Places in AZ and CA are saying only 10 years.
