I purchased my new 2001 SLT shortbed cummins 6spd high output on August 25th and have 658 miles on it. i love the truck but my lower back is killing me, the fixed lumbar support( i don't have the lumbar adjustment) hits me right in the butt instead of the lower back, i can last about an hours drive before my back ache is killing me. i am 6ft and only weigh 160 lbs so i think the problem is that i don't sink down very far in the seat and therefore the lumbar support is too low. has anyone else had this problem and how did the dealer or manufacturer solve it. thanks john skalet-Denver

Just got mine today, '01 QC SB 4x4 and non-power seat. Don't think lumbar is adjustable on mine, either. Feels like I'm sitting on an ironing board. Was hoping I could add some foam padding, either now or when I get leather installed in a few months. Anybody done this?

I can't offer a solution, since I'm looking for a solution myself.

The driver's seat in my 2000 is real comfortable, to me, but Mrs Doc has a problem with the passenger's seat. I'll be watching this thread for ideas on how to remedy this problem.

The problem I found to be the most nuisance is the seat belt. I am 6-2 and my shoulder is above the top of the hole where the belt comes out of the seat back. Since this is my bad shoulder anyway, the belt supplies constant tension and makes it hurt after a long trip. I guess if the Q-cab goes away for the crew cab, I will get a b-pillar back to mount the seat belt to.

well maybe

you should have ordered the 8 way power seat ;)

Man I love it that baby really hugs the body up and down :)

We must be shaped like the seats! Our new '01 Durango and Ram are comfortable for hours. It's been a long time since I could drive 10 hours without a backache. Now I can again. Give it alittle time to conform to your backside and back. Remember the old tractor seat that had to be hammered in the sand to fit your butt? At least our seats will "break in" after awhile.

seats

i agree, the leather power seats in my 01. 5 are the most comfortable i've ever had... ... ... ... but if yours aren't, there is/are aftermarketers who will modify them--add heat and lumbar support, and reshape them. my search engines today are not coming up with anything, but i ran a search about 3-4 mo ago and came up with some good info. i hesitate to tell you why i was looking... ... ... . well alright, i will. i was looking at the new shivvys--couldn't get heated power passenger seat in the 40-20-40 split from factory, only with "captain's chairs" which weren't as comfortable as the 40-20-40. fortunately i gave up the idea of a luralax and got my new ram.....

redneckdr, i'm curious what keywords you would use to search for the after market companies that would modify factory seats to be comfortable for my particular butt. thanks for your input. i talked to the dealer and they acted like there must be something wrong with me! john skalet

Back Massaging Solution

What I did which remedied the problem instantly, and is very cost effective, was go to Sam's club and buy one of those little deals that fits over your seat and plugs into the lighter outlet. It gives you an hour long massage at a time, and completely got rid of any back pain that I encounter while taking my marathon roadtrips. it's like $39. 99 and feels like happy finges all over your back! I tell you, I'm addicted. I can't run to the market without turning the thing on. Just have to drink more coffee to keep from getting too relaxed while on the road!

"The Better Back Store" has several pads / cussions that might help. They are quite helpful at trying to adjust things to make it work for you and have a 30 day return policy.

I have the plain cloth seats in my "01, I am about JSkalets size and I find my seats very comfortable----for me much more comfortable than the whing-whang multi-adjustable seats in my wife's new buick and much more comfortable than the manyway adj. leather seats in the recently traded in Caddy. I can drive for hours in good comfort.

Seat Fix

Pull the seat bottom out, remove the skin from around the bottom, place a piece of 2" foam against the OEM foam seet bottom and then a piece of carpet between the foam and the seat spring. Then pull the skin back in place and re-install the bottom. Should make it ride alot better.

Dumb question... ... ... can I get the power seat and replace my manual? Tried search and didn't find anything... . Thanks for the help!

power seat

dd

every thing is possible with a torch and a big enough hammer!!:D the hardest thing would be running the power wire, if it isn' there. there is a pickup salvage business on hwy 113(?) between rockmart and cartersville--Griffin's, i think. they might have the power seats from a wrecked p/u. worth a try, anyway.

"hits me right in the butt instead of the lower back"

I've got the same problem on my work car. . a '00 Ford Tauras, with non-power seats. .

Each time I get back in my Ram, I'm reminded how nice it is and it's power seats...

My main problem is that I have two ruptured disks... .

The wrong seat really tweakes them.

And your probably right, I'm way out of shape.

Try seat straight up . I have had fusion on lower spine put seat up right and takes strain off back . worth a try. Ron in Louisville KY:rolleyes:  :D
