Well this past Saturday Brad @ Ponci's diesel center and I installed a 2nd gen seat and also put on a 24 valve fuel filter assembly.

Well the seat came out of a donor pickup that Brad had picked up. The driver’s side seat was in shambles so I took it in and had it redone. The center console and the passenger side was in pretty good shape. It cost $280 to get the drivers side completely redone. I have read many posts as to how to install the seats, but Brad wanted to try something different. He built a sub frame and then used the factory brackets to mount them to the floor. If you check out my readers rigs you can see some of the early stages of the sub frame. I wish I would have done this along time ago. It is a very nice upgrade.

The 24 valve fuel filter set up came off a pickup that put a Full Fass system on. I had a fuel pressure gauge on my pickup, but I had it pre filter so I wanted to see how much pressure was actually making it to the pump. I asked Brad and he said that the factory unit was restrictive so that is why we put the 24 valve system on. The 24 valve system is also restrictive with the fuel heater in it, but I removed it. We also plumed the fuel pressure to read the pressure going to the pump. I get 17 psi at idle and 14 psi with WOT with the full fuel switch on. I gained maybe 2-3 psi of boost so it did help some, but the biggest thing is I know exactly how much fuel I have going to the pump.

Don’t look at the rats nest of wires one of these days I will get around to cleaning that all up.

I was thinking about putting seats just like that in mine. Just need to find some tan leather ones. My question is, does the center console get in the way of shifting? Sort of looks like it might.

Stomp, Could you post a wider shot of that filter install and or some other angles? I have that same housing making dead weight on my 01 and think this is a good idea for my 92. More info on the install please.

No it actually sits further back than my stock seat did. There is plenty of room between the seat and the shifter. If it did get in the way for some reason you could heat the stick up and bend it to your liking.

Here is another pic that might help you. These are the only two that I took of it, but if you look in my readers gallery you can see them a little better. The bracket that holds on the fuel filter housing just uses the one bolt for the master cylinder and then there is a slot cut in it to ride on the master cylinder bracket for extra support. I will try and get some more pics for you if that will help.

cool seats stomp. hope leather and diesel smell good

Thanks Carl, The diesel smell is gone now that the fuel pressure gauge doesn’t leak. What’s wrong with smelling like diesel??? Every time I go to your shop I smell like I took a bath in it :-laf

ya stomp, new seats are nice, uh? my first thought when i sat in my new driver seat was, why the heck didn't i do this three years ago???

got a parts list for fittings and stuff for the fuel gizmo? have you done anything with the in-tank stuff yet?

dave

Sweet on the fuel filter setup. It's cool when we can add 24 valve and newer or different application Cummins parts to our old trucks that most folks had no idea could work.

Another option for a filter would be to use a Racor style. Some of these will flow more fuel than you could ever use.

Yeah I saw you pics a couple of days ago. They turned out nice. Yeah I wish I would have done this when I first got the pickup in 98. As for the fittings and stuff. We used a banjo blt at the pump and then a tapped banjo bolt at the bottom of the housing so i could get my fuel pressure readings. The little sections of pipe both at the pump and the housing were something that was allready on the housing. I will try and get a picture of one in the next coule of days. Geno's has the banjo's here is the link to the page they are on.

Yes we did do something to the tank when Brad put the Fass on there. He installed a big head with a new pick up tube and then ran all new line all the way to the pump. Here is a pic of the big head.

Bill- thanks Yeah those 24 valve's do have some good stuff on them. We both have 24 valve stuff on our motors.

Jay you are right about the Racor set up. We just used this because it was lying around and I am cheap. (Ask Brad) :-laf

Stomp,

very nice seats. i need to get around to do mine. after a drive from Washington, to Florida, my kidneys where killing me.

on the filter. besides making it more accessabla, and cheap. is there a reason for the upgrade?

fuel pressure question

You say you now have 17psi at idle, 14 at WOT. I thought 15psi was pushing the limits of the internals/ seals of the VE? Or do you have something else I missed in my hurry to skim through the highlights? Is this 14psi with the stock LP or something else?

Nice seat set up. I have pics in Mom's computer of when I did the swap in my 91 that is now in StLouis (keep an eye out, Dieselman 359) area. My "new" truck has captain's chairs, so I will keep them a while longer.

Daniel

Daniel, he sure don't have a stock LP with 14psi. I think he's got some kind of electric type LP. There are alot of misconceptions about the VE. If you're worried about your FP, do the piston lift pump and join the 'sexy' club:cool:.

Great looking seats! How is the ride? I live off of a dirt road and I literally hit my head on the roof of the truck if I drive over just a medium sized bump. I have a feeling that this will be a "must do" modification after my broken back heals!
