I hate to say this, but if I were to do it all over again, it would have the Aisin auto, even if I'm partial to manual transmissions. With the regen program that only mine seems to have with the manual and the weaker G56 with the DMF, I would of wanted the Aisin and never had any issues.

I agree. If I ever make the jump to a 6.7 it will have an auto, the added torque is a big part, and the lack of tuning options is another big part on the 13+ trucks.

Don't mean to change the subject, but how's the 5.9 rebuild going, and if the 5.9 (W/O the new emission crap) was still available, would you have just bought a new truck?

Rebuild is going good, the machine shop should be done with it on Monday. As far as I know everything tested good in the head, and the rest of the motor was known good going to the shop for balancing and machining. I am hoping it's back together by the 6th, but time will tell. It should be a beast with the balancing, pistons/injector change, and new cam.

I seriously considered throwing an oil pump on it and trading it in on a 2014 3500 SRW with air suspension (would have had to wait), but that is going to run about 3-4x as much so it was easy to stick with what I have (lots of mods I really enjoy). I also couldn't live with myself trading in a such a valuable vehicle with known engine damage (although after tearing it down the motor was essentially spotless). The SCR 6.7 doesn't scare me, but I would still have had less power than my current 5.9 although the auto gearing would have probably made that hard to feel.

South Bend's O-HD, hands down!

Thanks. I went over to south bend's site and it looks like what I am looking for. I had a Con-Fe in my former '01 and liked everything about it except backing up a trailer. I don't want/need a dual disk on this truck.

I've still got the Amsoil ATF in mine, just got back from disaster deployment and haven't had time to change it out yet, and weather turned sour, will update when i change fluids, Monte
That's amazing,no noise w/ATF. Mine was awful after warming up w/ATF although it never shifted better than with that fluid.

If i don't like the sound with the mobil delvac i will be switching back to ATF, i have 125k on this with Amsoil ATF, should last that much longer,Monte

I've got 2 friends that have Fords and they replaced the DMF and their transmission's sound like they are coming apart, terrible noise

Guys,

I just wanted to add one thing to the comment above. Without knowing anything about which clutch disc design was used with the conversion, this comment above really is not factual enough. Most of the 7.3L DMF to SF conversions used disc designs that did a great job of minimizing gear noise, but I think most all of the clutch companies that offered SF conversions also offered HD design discs that used a really strong torsion damper that is not filtering out and preventing gear noise from being an issue. The plus is that you got a really strong simple damper that takes a beating and hangs in there.

Suggestion, add info about the clutch disc when discussing this topic, it will help everyone understand, learn and comment better.

It doesn't matter to me what they put in it, IT still sounds like crap

mfurrh55,

Drawing a conclusion or making statements without including enough fact based information really doesn't help other people make informed decisions. And I'm not doubting that their solid flywheel based system makes noise, but it is not the solid flywheels job to minimize gear noise, it now it the clutch discs torsion damper to take over and either filter the noise or allow it to be created in the transmission.

Like I ran Michelin tires and they were junk. Needs to include which Michelin tire and details if you're going to offer meaningful comments. And BTW I just put 4 new Michelins on my truck.

Good luck with your truck,

Gary

Hope you have good luck out of your new Michelins, BTW i did not call Michelins junk, I stated a fact on a set that came on my truck, Michelins MTX's, HAPPY THANKSGIVING, Monte
