Has anyone updated their Smarty Sr. with the recently released program?

It's listed under the S06 PoD product downloads.

Mads claims more linear power, cleaner operation and improved fuel economy.

I'm assuming that updating with this file will convert non PoD Smarty's to Pods along with the update?

Care to comment Bob?

Thanks!

I'm ready to give it a go. Do I have to return my truck to the stock setting before updating the Smarty Jr?

EDIT: Figured it out.

One guy on another site responded that the updated file doesn't seem cleaner, but seems to have a dab more power down low. We'll see if the improved fuel economy claim pans out.

Mine runs well with the current program.

Yeah,I think the claim's that it's more linear. Mine's pretty quick initially, then seems to plateau and jumps again @ 2000 rpm.

I believe you will download the non-PoD to PoD file, then download the latest PoD SW and update. So if you are currently non-PoD it will take 2 updates to get the latest and greatest.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'll hold off for awhile and get some more input.

Finally updated the Smarty (what a PIA) and will update the truck tomorrow. Then we're going for a 300 mile tow. Looking forward to a big increase in MPG! (JK!)

Its weird but i think that my truck gets better mpg on higher sw. I was using sw1 and am now running sw5 @75%. Need to run the numbers and run more than one tank, so?

Andy, Are you talking about software levels loaded into your Smarty or the power level you have selected - the SW5 is throwing me, sorry.
I spent so little time on Catcher 1 that it never had a chance to show any gains. Ca 2 seemed to get about . 5mpg better than Ca 3 but admittedly I didn't give the lower levels much time. I rarely use the power but it's so nice to have it there if needed that I'm ok with the slight loss.

514B takes the harshness out of throttle response. It makes the truck easier to drive around town because it pulls smoother after shifting. Before, the throttle was almost too sensitive. Also the power delivery is much more consistent - it doesn't have nearly the high and lows in the power band.
At first I had to stop and make sure I still had it on CaTcher 3 (Performance) because the power is so smooth and QUIET! Gone is the growl that to me was reminiscent of secondaries opening up on a 4 barrel. I was going to install a new exhaust with the goal being to get rid of the drone but no worry now.
The noise reduction is especially nice for me since with my slightly larger tires and 3. 73 gearing because I got a lot of drone at 60~65 MPH. That drone is gone and I can just slightly hear a soft burble from the eng. I even keep the radio lower!
The eng is smoother too. Before if I were to let the speed drop to 50 in 6th and even slightly roll on the throttle, I would get a ton of clutch/trans noise. Now there's nothing but smooth pull. Towing is much more pleasant.
The only time the old SW worked better is when down shifting from 6 to 5 while climbing a hill. With the abruptness of the earlier power delivery, the power came back hard and fast. Now I just have to put my foot down into it a bit more to keep the same momentum.
I can't address the FE side. My driving was a mixed bag of stop and go towing on mtn passes, cruising at speed and solo driving. I can tell you it was terrible though.
As far as smoke, I think there's only slightly (if any) more than stock for an 03.

Is it still good to run the Catcher 3 (performance) on the Jr for mileage? I have my 5. 12 on SW3,TQ=Default, TM=Default. I did see where they changed the order of the TQ and TM though. Anyone play with this yet?

I also have an '07, 5. 9, regular cab, 4WD, dually... ... ... just had a brand new set of stock injectors and new fuel supply tubes put in, along with a pcu reflash.
My mileage is still rotten. 15..... MAYBE on a good day running level, empty and with a tail wind.
I miss my '01.
