Pick-ups at scales?

Nova Scotia

Living in California, I've recently had to upgrade my propane tanks in my 1998 Bigfoot to the newer Overfill Provention Device (OPD) type tanks. Naturally, I also need to update the LP hoses from the tank to the regulator/changeover valve. After viewing the new style hoses, it appears that the tank adapter is pretty much standardized, however, I notice that the regulator end has 1/4" 'inverted flare fittings'? What are these? My old hose has regular 1/4" NPT ends. Are the two compatible or am I looking at a new regulator/changeover valve as well? Ideally, I would also like to install a pressure gauge between each tank, but need to resolve this before the next outing. Thanks in advance,

Pigtails come with either male ¼ inch NPT or inverted flare ends. The inverted flare is a standard Propane industry fitting. They are not interchangeable with NPT threads.

If you can’t find pigtails with ¼ inch male NPT threads, purchase the inverted flare pigtails and 2 inverted flare/1/4 inch male NPT adapters.

Screw the NPT end of the adapters (use approved gas pipe dope, do not get the pipe dope in the regulator) into the regulator, then screw the inverted flare end of the pigtail into the inverted flare adapter. Do not use pipe dope. The inverted flare is meant to be a metal to metal seal.

Thanks Richard, I knew somebody had to know about this. Do you have a suggested source for the pigtails. Also, why would the regulator end standard change? NPT has long been a reliable gas pipe thread?

You don't need to change the hoses. The new style tanks are compatible with the old style hoses.

I will surely check this out when I get home tonight Klenger, however, I was certain that one of the so-called 'improvements' made to the OPD tanks is the requirement of a plunger to open the valve.

I recomend that you go to your local Van Gas, Surban Propane etc. shop. Not to a RV dealer. The Propane dealer will custom make the pig tails that you want. That is a long as what you want is legal.

Happy RVing.

Klenger, you are an absolute genius! :-laf I would never have guessed that the old style hoses would thread directly into the new tanks. Maybe it was the female ACME connector that through me off, but I thought that I had even read somewhere that the hoses needed to be changed as well? Furthermore, the plunger even works. Anyway, thanks to all that resonded.
