I have 40,000 miles on my BFG 315's. . I should be able able to get 50,000 out of them. The tires pull great and look good but they were like CRAP on the factory rims and NO ONE can balance them. I am seriiously considering the 285's but they are MORE $$$$$ than the 315's. My questions are:

1. Do they wear evenly?

2. what mileage are you guys getting?

3. Is there another 285 that is equivalent to the BFG in lasting?

Thanks!

I cannot answer your question about the availability of other 285 tires, but I will speak to the BFG tires. i bout them and will get about 50k out of them. This is slighly better than I got out of the stock BFG tires. They seem to have excellent wet and dry traction as well as mud. I have not had them in deep snow, so I can not comment. The ride great and have worn evenly. The stock tires were dangourous on wet roads by the time they had 25K on them. The 285s seem to be just as good at 40 K as they were new. I have one gripe with the tires. The D range tire does not have as stiff of a side wall. I do not know if this is a function of lower air pressure or fewer plies of rubber. When towing a trailer, either bumper pull or goose, it does not have the level of lateral stability that I have seen in E rated tires.

I want either the same tire in E range or a 245/85/17 in e range. I have also thought about the ricksons, but do not know if I can bring my self to shell out over 3k for tires and wheels.

I have the 285's BFG AT's but not on the factory rim. They are mounted on a 9" rim, so tread is pretty flat. I think BFG recommends that the 285 and 315 be mounted on a 8-9" rim. I have been running at 50psi for 12000 miles and they seem te be wearing very evenly. I did a rotation 2 weeks ago at 9000 miles. I don't tow, so E rating was not a factor. Actually I think the D rated tire gives me a smoother ride.

I have run BFG's on several vehicles and fully expect to get at least 50k out of these.

My mileage is right at 17. 5-18mpg's at 72-74mph. It is 18. 5-20 at 62-64mph, and around 15 in town. These are hand calculated #'s.

Answers AND input on the tires...

I have a friend running the 285s and I run the 315s...

Here you go...

1) They wear evenly as long as you keep the pressure

adjusted from the mid-point to the high end of their range...

2) He is averaging (on his 2003) 17-19 mpg depending on speed

3) A friend of mine has the Bridgstone REVOs in a 285 size and LOVES them!

They are slightly less aggressive, but still a drastic improvement over

stockers...

As far as the 315s go... .

The trick I found to balance mine is the Innovative balancing beads

and every 6000 mile rotations to keep the tread from wearing funny

(if it cups, it throws off the balance and ride quality).

The beads self adjust inside the tire to offset the balance problem.

You can see them at:

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Bridgestone website still does not show the AT REVO in a 17" size. What size wheel does your friend have DGStrate? I would love to get a set of 285 REVO's for my truck.

In my haste...

Sorry, I forgot to mention in my haste that my buddy bought my 2nd Gen so he is running a 285 on a 16" wheel. Like yourself, I would be interested in getting a 285 , 295 or 305 REVO for a summer tire for our 17" rims... I think I will drop a note to Bridgestone suggesting this...

Sorry for the confusion!
