New transfer case ?

Will the push button transfer case have a neutral ? Thanks for all the information and pic's of new trucks Steve. By the way after more than a year of reading this is my first post. Thank you to everyone for all the great informantion on this web site.

Push button 4 wheel drive.

I can just see all of these big macho diesel drivers with thier push button 4 wheel drives. yeah lol. My wife had one in her piece of sh-- 95 blazer and I don't remember a neutral being there. There were some concerns about towing it because of that. It's been awhile though. But anyway it's just another piece of electrical stuff that goes bad after awhile.

TDickerson thank you for your reply. In my garage rite now is my wifes pos chevy blazer, what a piece of junk. 1997 blazer push button and no neutral.

I'm sure there will be a neutral selection

available. My 2001 Yukon XL 2500 4x4 has one, and

it is a pushbutton on-the-dash system.

Basically it requires you to push two buttons at

the sime time (they are marked).

My wife's P. O. S. Chevy 2000 3/4 ton (454) has push-button Txfr Case and NO neutral. Plenty of Creaks, Moans, Rattles, and Squeaks though!!!!!!!

This is the GM (both Chevy and GMC) pushbutton

setup. There is an option for NEUTRAL. All of

the transfer cases have it, so long as the case

has LOW range option and is not just a transfer

unit like the FULL TIME AWD system in some GM

trucks. If it has LOW range, READ the owner's

manual. It will have NEUTRAL but some vehicles

may not show it on the dash.



The Auto 4WD feature is nice. I can drive on

paved surfaces in 4WD, and not damage the

drivetrain. I have tested this in the rain and

there is NO wheelspin under full throttle (455

Ft Lbs, 4. 10 gears Vortec 8100).

Gear model 246. *END EDIT*

Will the electric-shift transfer case be an option? I like my Laramie package, but WOULD NOT HAVE an electric shift transfer case, wheather it has a neutral or not!!!! If I ever do decide to get another new truck (and only if a TRUE crew cab is available!), I suppose there will be lots of electronic junk to bypass and modify in addition to the usual... clutch safety switch, key in ignition buzzer, door light switches... :--) Trucks are just getting too damned fancy.

Dieselnut59, yes the 2003 will have a

push-button transfer case. Here is a copy from

this thread:

Transfer case options are all

new. You have the choice of the NV271

that comes with the ST package which

is manually shifted or the

NV273 that comes with the SLT package

which is push button electrically

shifted. Both transfer cases have a

2. 72 low range ratio.

By the initial looks of it, you will have

to get a "stripper" ST Ram to get the good

ol' lever shifted transfer case though.

I was reading Steve's article again. If you go to the bottom of the page there are more links to D/C's press release. Spec sheet,powertrain details, etc. It says the 271 is standard on the SLT and the 273 is standard on the SLT Plus package. Gooood news.

I hate sissy push buttons. Get an ST for a lever to control 4x4, that is if you are not to lazy to roll up your own windows, lock the doors without power assist, etc. , etc.

I've always preferred a shift lever for the

transfer case.



The main thread here is whether or not

the next gen Ram's NV273 will have a

neutral position or not.
