New to the forum, but not new to forums! Well anyway I figured I'd share and ask for any quick advice. Just picked up a 2001.5 I'm guessing? Its a 2001 on regi, but I was told since it has disc brakes in the rear its a 2001.5, but the door jam same date mfg. to be 09-2000. Welllll anyway, pick up the truck will only 135k on the clock. Just about everything on the truck works also. It came with a plow, not sure if I'm going to keep it or not, but its all done up so nicely I'd hate to destroy it all. Its a 4wd, auto
but it will do for now. Has new transmission lines, ball joints, steering box, tie rod ends, exhaust manifold to a brand new 4 inch MBRP exhaust with a nice big muffler on it, which I plan to keep. The tires have around 5k miles on them, new batteries in the last year, as well as a starter. She runs real good, and zero to no blow by. It still has the original I think catch can on the end of the blow by tube? But before I bought it, I tried the old oil cap trick. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, the bed, is a regular truck bed, but it has a dump bed installed, on a short bed, go figure. The pump has to get replaced as its non functional at the moment, but when I crawled under there, the positive terminal looked pretty badly corroded so well see. I'm not 100% that its not a 53 block, I crawled under there and tried to look in a few key places but didn't see anything, I may have to move some wires around, just to give myself the piece of mind. I was kind of hoping for 4.10 gears but 3.55s will do for now, I wouldn't mind actually getting some decent fuel economy as I come from driving a 1995 Ram 2500 5.9 GAS.
I don't have any real plans for the truck as of right now. I think a transmission flush is in order, the 2nd owner (man I bought it from) put about 25k miles on it and when I asked if he ever changed the fluid, he said no. It needs a few odds and ends, like a fog light, not the housing, just a light. Could also use an interior light, its the small things. I really just plan on changing a lot of the fluids, front and rear differential, couldn't hurt to do the transfer case also. I really want to, once the weather here in New York warms up, flip that dump bed up, get my wire wheel and start getting that frame down, and then slap some POR-15 on it. Really want to do this truck up nicely. Gauges wouldn't be a bad idea either I'm a freak when it comes to knowing what's going on. I definitely want to just replace the bed and get a new bumper on rock auto, they were surprisingly cheap, around $200 for a rear bumper. Thanks in advance!
