New to the forum, but not new to forums! Well anyway I figured I'd share and ask for any quick advice. Just picked up a 2001.5 I'm guessing? Its a 2001 on regi, but I was told since it has disc brakes in the rear its a 2001.5, but the door jam same date mfg. to be 09-2000. Welllll anyway, pick up the truck will only 135k on the clock. Just about everything on the truck works also. It came with a plow, not sure if I'm going to keep it or not, but its all done up so nicely I'd hate to destroy it all. Its a 4wd, auto :( but it will do for now. Has new transmission lines, ball joints, steering box, tie rod ends, exhaust manifold to a brand new 4 inch MBRP exhaust with a nice big muffler on it, which I plan to keep. The tires have around 5k miles on them, new batteries in the last year, as well as a starter. She runs real good, and zero to no blow by. It still has the original I think catch can on the end of the blow by tube? But before I bought it, I tried the old oil cap trick. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, the bed, is a regular truck bed, but it has a dump bed installed, on a short bed, go figure. The pump has to get replaced as its non functional at the moment, but when I crawled under there, the positive terminal looked pretty badly corroded so well see. I'm not 100% that its not a 53 block, I crawled under there and tried to look in a few key places but didn't see anything, I may have to move some wires around, just to give myself the piece of mind. I was kind of hoping for 4.10 gears but 3.55s will do for now, I wouldn't mind actually getting some decent fuel economy as I come from driving a 1995 Ram 2500 5.9 GAS.

I don't have any real plans for the truck as of right now. I think a transmission flush is in order, the 2nd owner (man I bought it from) put about 25k miles on it and when I asked if he ever changed the fluid, he said no. It needs a few odds and ends, like a fog light, not the housing, just a light. Could also use an interior light, its the small things. I really just plan on changing a lot of the fluids, front and rear differential, couldn't hurt to do the transfer case also. I really want to, once the weather here in New York warms up, flip that dump bed up, get my wire wheel and start getting that frame down, and then slap some POR-15 on it. Really want to do this truck up nicely. Gauges wouldn't be a bad idea either I'm a freak when it comes to knowing what's going on. I definitely want to just replace the bed and get a new bumper on rock auto, they were surprisingly cheap, around $200 for a rear bumper. Thanks in advance!

I wouldn’t flush the transmission if it was me I’d drop the pan put a new filter in and new atf4 And a double deep mag hy tech transmission pan . I had an 01 that disk brakes front and rear as well

Oh of course. I want to drop the pan and change all the fluid completely as well as a new filter. Might just have a shop do that as he may be able to tell if I need my bands adjusted or not. Automatics scare me a little bit, don't know much about what to look for besides the basics.

I don't tow much, but how much do you recommend the double deep pan? I see that it adds about an extra 4 quarts so if my research serves me right that should be right around... 21 quarts of transmission fluid. Recommend any brand of transmission fluid? I'm an amsoil guy but 21 quarts of that stuff is pretty expensive to say the least.. lol

I’ve always ran the Mopar brand atf 4 or valvoline brand I think any atf 4 spec should be fine that much ams oil would be expensive for sure . As far as the double deep pan even if you don’t tow a lot it would still help quite a bit in keeping the trans cool especially if you plan to turn up the ol gal some . My o1 with 3.45 gears would run 80 mph at just under 2000 rpm with 285/75:16 tires and was always 17 to 17.8 running empty . Adjusting bands on these are supper easy if you decide to do it yourself .

Ah okay, I have to call my transmission shop and see what he recommends. I don't think I plan on really turning her up much, who knows, I like the longevity of stock.

Wow that's awesome nice and low rpm, but don't you mean 3.55 gears? If I'm not mistaken these trucks only came with either 3.55 or 4.10.

Is that right? Hmm I'll have to do some research on adjusting the bands. I like to do things myself so I know how it works in the event I ever have an issue on the road and just so I know its done correctly, giving I learn how to do it.
