New Turbo (under warranty)

My 01. 5 ETC has the turbo blades that are slightly nicked up on the compressor side. DC said no problem to replacing it under warranty. I said that I would like to get the HX35. They later called and left a message that they needed the engine numbers to order the turbo. I thought of giving them the numbers of my friends '99 but I would probably get busted. O-well, I hope the new one is better than the origional one. It better not be a rebuilt P. O. S. Keep you posted. Chris

you know if it takes more than a week for the dealer to get your replacement in it will be a re-man. there waiting for it to be rebuilt. its been three weeks and my replacement sterio is not in yet. there waiting for someone to send in a broken one to have it re-man'd for me. you spend 30K on a truck and two weeks later you getting someones used P. O. S..... to fix it. .

when dealer calls me to let me now the radio has arrived I'm going to see if its a re-man before letting them put it in. I will not except any re-man junk!!!

Chris, has the dealership given you an install date yet? Are they providing you with a loaner vehicle?
Once the dealership looked at my damaged turbo a few weeks ago, they said that I could not drive it any further. So they gave me a stinkin Geo to drive around. The dealership started out telling me that I would have to wait for a turbo to be built and that they had no idea how long it would take to get one. I was lobbying for the HX35 since they didn't have any HY's around, but to no avail. After I called their customer service line they came up with a delivery date and installed a replacement turbo a week later. It's working fine, but does anyone know how to tell if the turbo is new or has been rebuilt?

Sig, I called the dealer last week to give him my engine #'s so he could order the right turbo. I told him that the HX35 would be all right with me but he said that they couldn't do that. I asked if the unit was to be a new one or re-built. He told me that it was going to be new. I would look at the castings of the turbo closely and you should be able to see if they are new or some old ones that were sand blasted then rebuilt. They are going to call me when it arrives. My blades weren't any where near as bad as yours so I'm still driving mine. By the way, whet did they say abuot doing an internal look see on your engine? let us know... . Chris

Chris, I talked to the service rep and told him that I wanted them to look for pieces in the CAC and scope the cylinder walls for scoring. He said that the mechanic did check while changing out the old turbo for any debris, checking hoses etc but could find nothing. He said that they do not have the equipment to scope the cylinders and that they had done everything that they could do for me. According to Cummins, the pieces were so small that they should have passed on through the motor without incident. I hate to hope they're right, but yet I don't want to pay to have the motor taken apart for a further look either.
