New washer and dryer

Anyone have any recommendations for a new washer and dryer. Ours just went south. Looking to spend about 1000-1500(Total). Doesn't have to be real fancy just do a good job. Don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles. Looked at a GE that Consumer Report said was good and all the buyer comments said it was a pos?????? Been looking at Kenmore and Maytag---but a lot of people like Sansung---

Well maytag is made by whirlpool now just incase you didn't know. If you could find a set really made by maytag then that would probably be the best.

My uncle sold appliances for years, and when we got our new washer and dryer (2006) he told us to spend the extra money and get Whirlpool, not GE (I think GE is made by Frigidare. ) I like mine - I have them stacked in my laundry room. I had front loading GE washer and dryer in my old house that we bought in 2003, and I liked them - other than the dials broke quickly. My mom has front loading Kenmore washer and dryer, and the washer shakes like a SOB - she HATES it! And with front loaders - you have to let them air out, or the rubber seal gets moldy. And I can't smell it, but my husband swears he has a sour smell to his uniforms, which I can only attribute to mold in the rubber seal.



My uncle also thinks that with all the environmental 'stuff' going on, that top loading washers will not be made for many more years (cause the use so much more water) - so you may want to get one while you still can!

If you can afford it, Samsung front loaders are great. That has been probably one of the best purchases my wife and I have made. Like all front loaders, keep the door cracked open after washing to air dry or mold will grow. Samsung customer service is very good. We also have a samsung refrigerator that had a broken ice feed and they came right out and fixed it. We purchased both from Lowes about a year and half ago. Good luck on your decision.

I bought a Fisher and Paykel washer from Lowe's about three years ago and it is the best I have ever owned. I bought a Maytag before that, kept it a year and had Lowe's haul that piece of crap away when I bought the F&P. The F&P has a stainless tub and no transmission. It is a DC drive unit that is very quiet, efficient and does a great job on the clothes. When my dryer goes, I will replace it with a Fisher and Paykel as well.

GE still made their own as of 2 years ago. I saw them in action. Sad story.

Always had Sears Kenmore. Only once needed repair and their repair tech fixed first time . Good service.

I got the front load front control model with matching front control dryer.



Been going strong for about 4 years now washing dog beds, horse blankets and the usual stuff



They also make commercial duty top loaders.

I've got a matched set from GE. HE front load washer and dryer. They are 1 yr old now, and no problems. 'Bout the biggest ones that Sears sells.

Even though it is just me, I don't have a lot of spare time, so the fewer the loads, the better. Front loaders clean clothes far better and they last longer. Less water and electricity. Plus, mine are electronically controlled, and the timers and delay options are great. The wiring in my house isn't as heavy as it ought to be, so I can stagger the run times of both so they won't be on a the same time, if I'm also using the same circuit for other things.

If you have gas it will save you money to run a gas line to your new gas dryer. Why would anybody want to throw 4000 watts of power out of their home?

Have been using Maytag for a few years they are ok I would look at the new Bosch unit. Look at the country of origin , most of the appliances are now made in Korea.

Some don't. Some people put an old stocking on the hose and vent the warm, moist air into the house. Hmmm. I should try that here. We don't do much laundry, but that heat and humdidity would certainly save some money. I'd even consider a winter shower vent to save more heat and moisture; but it'd have to be separate from the normal vent, can't have pewpz and peez stanking the house.

I ended up having to buy a washer today... Got a GE 4. 1 cu/ft Top loader thats an HE2 style. listed for 650, Retails for 499. on sale for 475. 00 and got it for 435. 00. Wife hates it already... lol. She likes to run the water and add clothes as it fills... Can't do it with these. But I love it already.

Not a bad idea if you can stay ahead of the lint.

I was visiting a friends house way back in 1981. He had ran out of propane. He simply spun his electric dryer 180 degrees, set the timer on 2 hours and the kitchen/living room area of the double wide was nice and toasty.

Some conpany was making and indoor water type lint trap.

So, my kid's new motorcycle just turned into a washer/dryer. There was a short in the wiring harness to the motor on our 14 y. o. very heavily used Kenmore dryer. I don't know if the plug shorted or if the motor did, but the harness is almost $150! No way am I going to spend that much to fix something that will keep having things fall apart. I've already put several new parts in it. The washing machine is not far behind. The transmission is going out for the second time and it makes a horrendous squeak that I can't track down. It's time for new equipment. Any more suggestions since the last post in January? I want a gas dryer. All the bells and whistles are not needed.

Our 3 year old whirlpool "H E" series are still working fine. Can't beat a gas dryer.
Something I warn others about.
Check the plug on your electric dryer right after it has been used. Do this about once a year. These plugs pull a ton of energy and if not in perfect condition will quickly get hot. Then the lint that is always back there ignites catching those lost socks or underwear on fire. Worked 2 electric dryer fires in our VFD so far. Same reason,,,faulty recpt or plug.
If it is hot to the touch then replace the recpt. and plug.
