This is my first post and I've got a couple of questions that maybe you guys could help me with. I've tried to search for the answers before posting but didn't really find anything.

I've got a buddy that just bought a 24V '99 automatic off of ebay. He just got it today and there are a couple of obvious problems. There is a knock from what I believe to be cylinder #6, as well as, a bad fuel leak. I've tried for quite a while to find the location of the leak with no luck. I'll continue to look but my question is if it's the #6 fuel line leaking this bad, is it possible that #6 isn't gettinng fueled at all? And would it make that noise from not getting fueled? Or just bite the bullet and expect #6 to be shot and replace motor?

The other thing is, when driving it (which we had to do for a short distance) the check engine light will kick on and the engine will just drop to idle. After it coasts down about five to ten miles per hour, you can then give it throttle again. I don't have a code reader so I'm not sure what code it's sending with the check engine light. Any help on these issues would be greatly appreciated, I love this forum. Thanks in advance.

Did the person disclose these issues in the EBAY listing? I have this image of some guy saying "I have a 53 Block and VP-44 is going South", I think I will just stick it on EBAY and be done with it. SNOKING

First of all welcome to the TDR. Now about your buddy's truck. He needs to get to a Cummins shop (or dealer with a good diesel tech) ASAP. His new truck could have very expensive issues.

It's possible that if he acts quickly, he'll have some recourse though Ebay which could save him a ton of money.

It's usually number 6 that fails when things go bad. Things like oil filter material clogging the cooling jets in the piston, overheating from too much fuel and not enough air (high egts) just to name a couple of gremlins.

Good luck, RJR

I think that he's researching what recourse he has right now. But in case he's stuck with it I'm trying to figure out what the possibilities are.

Dont use your hand to try and find the fuel leak. It's under high PSI and can inject through your skin. Use a piece of paper or cardboard if you think you found it. It sounds like he may be looking at a new shortblock and injection pump or TPS. If it has the original auto he can expect that also. Hopefully he can return it. Jake
