I recently added a Isspro pyro. I had the 607 long thermocupling and noticed it's touching the bottom of the exhaust manifold. I pulled it last night and probably try to find a shorter one. I can't reuse this one cause it has a rough place on the tip where it was rubbing, can I? I know I'm lucky - the turbo is still in one piece. Any suggestions? Also there is a small leak around the brass fitting in the manifold. I'm already 4 turns into the manifold and don't want to tighten anymore. Any suggestions with this one? Will a little leak hurt? Thanks in advance.

You can reuse the Thermocouple as long as its not too badly scuffed. Personally, if it had gouging i would replace it, you have alot at stake if that Thermocouple is damaged to the point it is cracked. As far as the Exhaust leak, did you use enough Anti Sieze? that helps to seal it, just dont use so much the it gets all over the probe. A small leak will most likeley seal itself up with carbon over a few hundred miles time.

Thanks EMDDIESEL. I thought the pressure would blow the anti-sieze out, it's worth a try.

I'm not familiar with Isspro thermocouple construction but most thermocouples mount using a compression washer. If this is the case, you won't be able to move the nut/washer down the probe to raise it out of the manifold because it is seized on there through the compression action.

Why not tighten more? Another turn is not going to make that much difference unless you are concerned about stripping. If you pull it out, make sure you put anti seize as suggested by EMD. The tapped hole is slightly tapered so if you go in a little more, the fitting should seat. The fittings that came on my thermocouple are stainless steel and seated with about 2 threads showing with no leak.

Everything I 've read says the bottom of the bushing should be flush with the interior wall of the exhaust manifold. That was the reason for not tightening any farther. I think I'll try another turn with some anti-seize. I've got the bushing capped off until I can get another thermocoupling. Thanks for the help.
