I think that there is an option that has been used by the "big dogs" for some time..... how about a valet switch... . ???
I had to go thru our emissions testing just last week. Now, two years ago I went thru the same test and out of an allowable 30ppm Nox, I was producing 24. 9ppm.
This year I did my "down tuning" a bit diffently than the last time.
I backed the timing off to stock index marks, turned by fuel screw out 1 2/3 turns, and disconnected the AFC boost tube and plugged the end resulting in zero "no boost" fueling.
This emission test I did last week produced a 14. 8ppm reading. Wow, was I surprised...
Ok, hang in there guys... just a bit more... .
With my current setup I can still hit 30 - 32 psi boost pretty quick, and have to
REALLY work hard to approach 1200*F. This is quite a jump from my "pre-emissions" test. Before the "down tuning" I could hit 43 psi boost and see up to 1500*F very easily when getting on it, especially on a my test hill... . and that's was running empty without any extra weight.
Ok, how does this help the "POD and towing" question. . ??? well, I am going to install a valet switch to really make the performance mods much more user friendly...
You can switch off your extra fueling for towing or even around town and when you want to play, just throw the switch and you have instant max/aggressive fueling... .
The extra fuel the POD's provide is MORE than enough to get you moving and give you the good/safer pulling HP/torque when you need to work it, and the valet switch "on" gives you your race till you drop available with a single switch.
I'm going to try this on my truck and I'll report back when I've done the install and tested it on my normal driving route and test hill.
What do you think of that idea?????
Let me know if you like the idea and mabe we can help each other out with some fine tuning and refining the idea.
pastor bob... .
