Competition This turbo any good for a twins setup?

Keep in mind that the diesel aren't going to recieve as much contingency as a gas car due to the fact that most contingency sponsor don't even make products for the diesels. Although it would be cool to be able to run a truck in a national event. I will build one if they allow it. :) There is no feeling like being in a national or divisional final, I have made the final in both and won an NHRA divisional championship and it's as cool as he!! to do so. :) Keep up the good work guys.

Today we had a good conference call, with several greats of the diesel sport , everyone is on the same page , we want this bad!!!!!!, we have come to a concusses that we need to make this a tuners class , and not a "WOW LOOK HOW FAST" AND IT BROKE AND SCATTERED PARTS ON THE TRACK PARTS

We want it be easy to police and tech, with the ability to become the premiere diesel venue. Most want a single turbo because the real tuners will show up there. The analogy to this is PRO MOD vs. PRO STOCK

Any one with a deep pocket and a little aptitude to drive can run PRO MOD and be a contender, if they really want to bad enough. But if you can not innovate, you can spend an unlimited amount of money in PRO STOCK and never race on Sunday. The trucks will very quickly become works of technology, and this class will become competitive, and the results will be the talk of these web sites. We will still conceder some way of including twins in , with a weight penalty or such , but the contenders will be the single turbo trucks with there likenesses to the average street truck, Remember vehicles in Super stock must be able to race round after round , with little cool down time and must be consistent. NHRA also dose not want something that puts any thing on their tracks especially on Sunday during TV time

Welcome another experienced winning NHRA racer

AMEN to that, been there done that never won one , but have been the final round in comp

Greg, it's nice to see real racers like yourself making things happen for the diesel community. Although I don't see myself becoming eligible for this, I have a couple of points:

We all know that Fletcher's truck is the quickest Ram-bodied diesel in the WORLD, at 10. 52 (? ). Now, he'd have to drop a 1/2 second to be in danger of being too quick, and keep weight above 4500lbs. Doesn't seem too risky.

As far as single turbo trucks, they haven't even gotten into the 11's have they? No drugs, of course. They seem to have consistency problems as well.

Now, even if a person started with a 1/2 ton chassis and put it on the Karen Carpenter diet, they'd still have to meet the weight requirement. Seems like a self-solving dilemna.

Can't guys go T&T their trucks before running in an event to be sure anyway?

It also seems that when it comes to racing, diesel guys either want to run their daily drivers, or they want the quickest diesel on the planet (sound familiar? :) ). Will this class be too middle of the road to draw serious numbers? Maybe it's just a matter of proper promotion...

Lastly, could you explain how it's bracket, except sometimes it's based on quickest ET? Be patient, I ride the small bus... :-laf

Thanks, and keep at it! :D

Super Stock is broken up into numerous classes. Each class is set up for a particular cubic in or engine type and a minimum weight. Based on what type of motor and car wt, NHRA assigned base ET the Class should run, which is reffered to as the "Index" for that class. When you show up to a race with other Super Stockers and qualify for the race, you are trying to be the fastest guy in your class. The objective is to make your class combination run as fast as it can and most of the real good racers are beating the index by at least . 8 seconds or "8 tenths under the index". That is important because if you race another guy who is in your class, you both are leaving the starting line at the same time also known as a "heads up" race. He with the most power-wins. If you are racing someone who is in a different class, then you leave the starting line at different times(which is called ET racing). The slower guy leaves first, then the faster guy after that. Inb theory, you both should reach the finish line at the same time, but somebody always manages to get there first. Hope this explination makes Super Stock racing a little clearer for you. :)

Running half ton chassis will save a big 50 pounds. Three peice frame, rear section and front section's all the same, the middle is a little thinner thats it. All the front suspension off a 3/4 ton will bolt right on a 1/2 ton. Been there... doing that... . :)

Thanks! I have some pretty good experience bracket racing, so understand that, but this was helpful for Super Stock. I should pay more attention when I'm at the track, I guess...

Too bad they couldn't race against other vehicles (gassers). I have some fun at the diesel drags, but my biggest thrill comes from racing against cars in the open "Pro" bracket, which has drawn unbelievable attention (signing autographs and handing out sponsor's cards at most races). :D

Still, it's a cool concept.

Ronda in super stock you will be racing Gassers also, it is essentially a bracket race where you set your own dial in , as long as its faster (under) you class index.

The exception is when you run a competitor of the same class , IE another diesel truck it becomes a heads up race to the finish line. If your able to bracket race Ronda , and I hear you can , you will be able to win in super stock, another bit of info , in super stock delay boxes are prohibited.

The more phone conversation and conference we have had has brought up another ideal. Two or three classes

SS/TA-diesel 4500 twins

SS/TB-diesel 4500 single

SS/TC-diesel 4500 single with a restriction to turbo inlet size

Thanks David Lot

What dose everyone think about making one class of a and b with a big weight penalty like 300 lbs

Sounds great to me!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Actually I have been considering merging two things I love, my 78' Camaro with a CTD! Sounds outragous, but that's what I love about the idea! LOL! I can only imagine the looks I'd get pulling the Z off the trailer and fireing up a Plugless Motor! I don't know if the CTD will fit under the hood though. I am sure I would be able to make it hook with the 10. 5" tire and ladder bar combo I have now. I think if I could tune the combo with a single turbo, weighing in at 3500 lbs, the car would rock! I am already running 10:30's with a Big Chevy making 600 HP, so making 800 HP with a Diesel would put me in the 9:50 zone... Of course I'm not sure if they would allow me to run it in Super Stock, but running Modified ET would be a Hoot! :D

Wana Make it fair for all Comp- Have eveyone one FILL OFF THE SAME DIESEL TANK befor the race and test the fuel after the race. Let them run twins singles tripples or what ever the heck else they can bolt on. Try and keep the field level buy running what it was designed to run on DIESEL. :-laf

I'd like to see this happen at dyno events... ... ..... duh, I bet that will step on toes, the big number guys will never go for that... ... ... except me :D

Jim

sled puller your a tech guy . can you really make that much difference with fuel additives???

I run pure purple , because its good for my pumps I'm told , haven't had a single problem with hung racks since I started running it, its worth about 10 hp on the dyno on a truck like snow white

in comp we have a spec fuel , VP C-25 we get tested every pass in the shut down area, I know SS , Stock and comp are all tested , in PRo Stock they will have you come to the staging lanes dry , and Fuel you. I bet you could be some one like Bio Diesel , or pure purple to do the same.

You know better than that. Dragracers can't make power on Diesel, they need the nose candy!!!

When I ran the 8. 72 at dallas I was required, by NHRA tech , to remove my hose in the staging lane from the bottle, I asked to leave the bottle in , because the weight , that I put in its place was loaned out to a super stock racer. I keep the same corner weights for the chassis set up.

I did have water , about a 1/2 pint went in the motor of windshield washer fluid

this is a picture of me and crew at the world finals in pomona in 2000

notice the V6 chevy , it made 638@ 9200 rpm's from a 266 inch on gasoline with one carb best time 7. 49@174

Once a druggy, always a druggy.

Water is not windshield washer fluid.

Water is water, Windshield washer fluid, is windshield washer fluid.

Green Machine,

To answer your question that is missing now?, Yes I am working on a 1st Gen 2wd dragger, for my niece to drive. It will be low power, as she just started to drive.

Would love to see a Scheid rail engine in it for 06. It may need 4 linked, and slicked.

I think very highly of it, if I could run my truck. As a matter of fact, I think that twin trucks should have to weigh in at a minimum of 5500lbs! This is because my truck weighs 6500 race-weight, and I can't imagine living without my air conditioning, satellite radio, dual batteries, console full of CD's, tools, etc. Plus, I like to have enough fuel in the tank to run all day and make the long trip home without stopping... :-laf

Since my truck seems to be faster than most trucks that have more than 100hp more than her, I'll take the weight handicap... :p

BTW, is use of 4WD allowed?
