Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by the entire truck
Please understand, I don't dislike anything in particular about the truck. But, I guess I was expecting to be much more excited about it than I am after my 20 mile test drive.

Sitting in the truck, you feel like it is an F150 with nicer materials. The front end reminds you of a Silverado and the tailgate and box area feel Toyota to me.

Engine and trans run and shift fine. But, the torque management must be extreme because it felt very lazy to me. It almost reminds you of driving a 6.7L Ford only with less power. It just seems to take forever to decide to get going. Again, not meaning to sound so negative, but it doesn't seem impressive to me.

You're pretty much describing the 6.7's as well, particularly with the Aisin. Just so much torque management it's a dog to get going. Don't mind on an HD truck, which pulls heavy...would be even more annoying on a light duty truck which spends most of it's time hauling groceries and small trailers. I will say mine did wake up quite a bit after getting about 10k miles, but it's still "lazy" IMO. It is much better in tow/haul though. Seems like the management doesn't spend as much time "thinking" about what it wants to do to achieve the best fuel economy.

I still have the Titan on my short list to replace my current 1/2 ton Dodge. I usually keep them for 5 years and trade, but I've held on to this one a little longer in anticipation of the new Nissan/Cummins combo as well as the other changes in the market. I'm not going to jump just yet since my 2010 is still meeting our needs, but probably will be making a purchase by this time next year. That should give the Titan some time to get through the teething process and see what other options appear in the market. My gut tells me that my choice, if I were to make it today, would be to buy another gas powered Dodge 1/2 ton or a low end Ram 2500 if I wanted to go diesel.

I guess some of my disappointment comes from the fact that my 2015 MB Sprinter, with it's tiny little 2.1L 4cyl and 265 lb/ft of torque mated to the 7G-Tronic trans, feels strong in comparison to the Titan XD. Those 2 vehicles both carry 8550 GVWRs and probably sit fairly similar in curb weight. The programming is just so much less restrictive with that smaller engine in the MB.

Mingoglia, I see you have a 4:10 rear diff as well, it's even worse with my 2014 in sig with 3:42's.

Someone posted in another thread about how he felt "dead pedal" is subjective, and 3 people can drive the same truck and have a different opinion based in part to their driving style. I'd be real curious to drive a similar truck to mine and see how the two compare. I notice it, but it doesn't bother me typically. It does catch me off guard from time to time when say I change lanes with someone approaching quickly and I put it to the floor and it just seems like the entire fuel system decides to go to sleep for what seems like an eternity. Seems like if I accelerate say half throttle I get more ooomph than I do putting it to the floor. From the initial sounds of it, it sounds like the Nissan may exhibit this same trait. Can't wait to drive one. And yes, I can see how a numerically lower gear ratio could emphasize the problem. My 4.10 gear/Aisin combo is certainly in the minority it seems.

A buddy of mine whose a service advisor at a Nissan dealership said they got their first Titan back on a tow truck where the owner dumped in a 2.5 gallon box of DEF into the diesel filler. He texted me a loooong list of everything they're planning on replacing on the customer's dime. Ouch.

So how many of these Nummins have you guys seen on the road? I've seen one in Ca, and it was pulling a 5th wheel that looked way too big for the lil feller. Other than that one, zero, zilch, nada.......

I see 2 here on a regular basis. Haven't had the chance to talk with their owners yet however. The dealer where I bought my Sprinter sells Nissan also. I'll be down there in mid August for a warranty repair, and I'm gong to test drive a couple more. I wasn't head over heels impressed when I drove one the first time. I'd like to give them another try.

I wanted to purchase one, but it's just to much money. I was impressed with the truck, in all aspects. I settled on a 2016 Tacoma 4X4 off-road, it can tow my boat and it was affordable. For the cost of the Titan XL, you can buy a Ram 2500 CTD, I have not seen any Titan XL under 50K.

Well I hope the smaller diesel market continues to grow and gain popularity......But then again, should I be careful what I ask for?

After 1 year of ownership, I can't tell you how pleased I am with the tiny little diesel in my van. You would never think that something that small could deliver such good mileage and overall performance in such a large vehicle. I hope that other manufacturers will continue to develop that technology in to their model lineup.

I saw 2-3 doing RV duty in pigeon forge recently. Something about that truck looks wierd to me. The fenders look too big
