Holy Cr@p!

4-53 Detroit Diesel Performance

According to 4 Wheeel and Off Road Magazine, at a recent press event, Nissan execs were asked if they were planning other variations of the Titan full size truck. Variations such as 3/4 and 1 ton modlels, or one with a diesel engine, and the answer was yes.

they had a diesel truck before in north america didn't they? i know toyota had a diesel mini truck in the early 80's [my pop had one] and in the rest of the world, they all have diesel trucks avalable. they are finally begining to smarten up

That's cool. I like Nissan trucks. I had a 1995 4x4 kingcab V6 5spd once and it would barely tow my 21' bowrider. There's no way I'd try to tow my current boat, a 25' Baja Outlaw that weighs about 6,000 Lbs with the trailer. With my Ram, literally, you hardly know it's back there. The Nissan would get yanked all over the place.

There's no way I'd sell my Cummins Ram for a diesel Nissan 3/4 ton truck though!

I work for Nissan at the Smyrna,TN plant. The Titan is a very nice truck. The release date is December. I have heard rumors of a diesel but I do not know where it will be built or when it will be released. I have heard if sales are well it will get a diesel in about a year. I will not get rid of my Cummins for it though!

Toyota also in 05 making a heavy duty truck and the i force v8 will not cut it power wise. Toyota has lots of diesels over seas. I wonder what power they will have? WV's new v10 tdi puts 553 lb. foot & over 320 horse with just 5. 0 liters displacement:D

I had a 81 Datsun (Nissan was Datsun way back then) with a 2. 2 liter Diesel engine. Great engine but the body rusted off in no time. I was a mechanic at the Datsun (also Dodge) dealer at the time and I bought the first Diesel that showed up there.

It was a somewhat dated design with glow plugs but had replaceable sleeves, gear driven cam and an in line pump. It was a regular industrial engine unlike its contemporaries that Toyota and Isuzu came out with. Always got 36 MPG.

Do names such as Hino, UD, Mitsubishi Fuso, etc. ring a bell? The Japanese already market diesels in North America - it wouldn't be a big step for them to move into the diesel pickup marketplace if they chose to do so.

As I said, they have not chosen to do so yet. That doesn't mean they can't change their minds. Time will tell, I suppose.

'05 MY

Well whatever ... the point is, no HD model for '05 MY (model year). Which is all I intended. Hino? Yes ... I've been there (yes, in Japan).

TOGO primarily (don't ask). Toyota's own CAD. Its OK but ya gotta translate a lot of Jenglish.

Catia is just now rolling in, program dependent.

Hino's the same. Do you work for a supplier company?

Yeah I work at Venture Industries primarily over at GM Tech Center... on Unigraphics... Starting to learn Catia. Broaden the horizons if you know what I mean. :D
