I have a very good friend, that knows just a little bit about Cummins, he's the president of Cummins Metro Power. He says, and he just knows a little about Cummins, that Ford owns NO PART of CUMMINS. Think he might know what he's talking about ?? LOL

'95 xt cab,slt,4. 10,auto,285 BFG all terrains on Centerline Extreme Billit Comet 3's,K&N,tst 230/605, silencer ring in top of toolbox, boost and pyro in full pillar mt. 159,000 mi and climbing... went to feed the cat and it was GONE !!!!!

Well, for the umpteenth time the Cummins will be retained in the 5. 9 liter form with the Bosch common rail system that is on the Duramax. I have this from the very top. It will debut in Sept. 2002, is very quiet, and the following year all will have an EGR valve per the new laws.
Cheers
Bill

Hey get this!
A mechanic at the local Dodge dealership told me tonight that the Dodge is going to get a CAT!

ROTFLMAO!!!

I started to tell him otherwise, but some folks you just can't tell anything.

I heard the Lindberg baby was seen in a Dodge crew cab being driven by DB Cooper. Jimmy Hoffa was in the passenger seat and Bigfoot was tied down in the bed!! Bartender, FILL EM UP #ad

ROTFLMAO!

When placing the order for my 2001(. 5?) the fleet sales guy told me, in the context of the next RAM:

"... no more cummins, mercedes and that the new crew cab's rear doors, while forward hinged will be 2/3 or 3/4 length doors and that it would REPLACE THE QUAD/EXTENDED CAB"

While it is hearsay to me at this point, I told him, "the only reason I am buying one of your products is because of who makes the lil 5. 9 liter inline six, I'm not all that picky about who's name is on the wrapper. "

Spoke my peace, NOW DC PLEASE BUILD AND SEND ME MY NEW BEAST!

Hello,

Just to throw my 0. 2 cents in.

I can understand that you prefer to buy stuff made in the States.
Me too. #ad

But you should consider the facts as they are in reality.
MB has build more diesel engines than anyone else in the world. Their engines are known as the best diesels here in europe.
Maybe not the most powerfull, but the most reliable ones.
How can you say that the Cummins is better than the MB? Have you ever seen one?
MB has no 6. 4L 200Hp engine as you say.
They have two 6. 37L engines, one with 239HP the other with 279HP.
Take a look at: http://www.mercedes-benz.com/e/ecars/trucks/atego/drive3.htm
Enjoy.

Would buy a GM after 20 years of GM saying WE HAVE A FIX ? Don't worry?

I like the Cummins as much as the next guy, BUT with DC owning both the MB diesel and now Detroit Diesel I wouldn't bet much money on the Cummins sticking around. Makes very little sense, except to us. Some bean counter is going to say "why are we buying engines from Cummins when we have two available in house?" We may not like it, and they may loose sales from us diehards, but I think the hand writing is on the wall. Something to think about!

Nope, Isuzu is the World's leading diesel engine manufacturer. But, MB is still dang good at it.

Marco,

True, MB does build good diesel engines. No argument there. I would assume that if DC did put them in the Ram, they would be intelligent enough to at least compete with Ford and Gm output wise. Aside from the fact that most of us bought the Cummins not the ram, the problem is service and BOMBing. Where do you get the MB engine worked on? We hear horror stories already. Aftermarket parts? Increased power? Even makes the PSD look good!

QRTRHRS,

I can speak only from the European (Italian)
point of view. (Don't know how the MB situation in the States is).
Here in Europe the absolutely number ONE in service is MB!
If I need any spare part for my Cummins here, I order them through Chrysler and receive them within 24-36 hours. Most come directly from the States!
I don't see why MB shouldn't be able to do the same in the States.

On the downside one could say that the MB parts are more expensive than others.
(Really??)
BOMBing MB engines, is for me here in Italy, much easier than it was to BOMB my Cummins.
Again I don't know about the situation in the States.

Now, you can like or not MB, that's up to your personal point of view. I did NOT want to deny that.
I wanted to point out the fact that you're misinformed.
MB has no 6. 4L 200HP engine.
Ok?
Marco.

P. S. PSD looks good? NAH! Never! #ad

Marco,

Again, I have no problem with the MB diesel per sey. I would sooner buy an MB than an Isuzu ie. Duramax. I just don't want an engine that I cannot easily work on or find someone who can. You need to understand, that while there are plenty of Dodge dealerships to pick from, the quality often goes begging. Consider also that the Cummins/Dodge application is a mature relationship. There is an existing infrastructure relative to the Cummins that pretty much covers any need. I could likely run to my local tractor dealer for parts that would be applicable to the Cummins.

As you mentioned in an earlier post, there is the desire to purchase a domestically produced product. NAFTA aside, if not for the Cummins, I would never by a truck produced in Mexico given a choice.

Lastly, there is an assumption that DC would wimp out on base power and it would be difficult to uprate.

So don't take it personnal.

QRTRHRS, but would you buy one made in Canada? Curious, because nobody has done better at promoting (except maybe the Japanese government) buy domestically made products than the US government. Have you been brainwashed by this not so secret US government mind control over US citizens purchasing decisions? (lol)

Turbo Horseman,

Canadian or US built truck; either one would be fine with me. Note that I did buy my Dodge even though it was built in Mexico. Why? Well, there are not to many used CC Rams around with a $3,800 dollar aluminum stakebody on. In general, I have a real problem with companies going overseas or to Mexico to build a product to sell domestically only to pocket the huge difference in wages. I am a union worker, not always proud of my union mind you but I believe in supporting the people who support me if it is at all reasonable. Do I feel sorry for Mexico's poor? Sure I do. Are they my responsibility? No! Do I trust the US government? No! Do I support the US government? Only when the goal is clearly defined. I better stop or this post will need to go to "Other".
