I know dealers are there to get the almighty buck, thats all. Thats what makes our country what it is. Always has been about the $ buck. I never met anyone who likes lining the pockets of others with the little money they get to keep after taxes, myself included. But, when we know as much as we do, we are at an advantage over others. Some people don't even know they are getting ripped off, I don't blame the dealer for that. Since cash is king, I don't deal unless its in my best interest. You can't be taken advantage of unless you let it happen. If we know a deal sucks, then it sucks - bye !

I still can't beleive the prices you guys are being offered for a used diesel truck.

Just got back from the local whole sale auction, no Dodge or GM diesels, but a few Fords.

99 F-250 7. 3 auto club cab long box 4x4, looked OK, had a few really big scratches on the box sides, 144,000 miles, salvage title. Went for $9200+

01 F-250 7. 3 auto reg cab 2wd under 100K miles, went for $15K plus

Rember, these are wholesale prices, not retail.

I don't know the diesel mraket in other areas, so this may all be on the high side, but this is just what I saw go across today.

Not all dealers or salesman are bad people. I am a used car dealer myself, and my dad has been in the buisness for 20+ years. I know there are alot of people on here that have the same way of thinking as myself, but there are also some on here(as well as the thousands that have never been here) that are narrow minded and automatically group all dealers together as scum. I will agree, that there are more so than not, that are "scum". That is a part of any buisness, but if you don't like the dealership or the salesman, then leave. If a customer comes in acting like they are the all-mighty and they are going to tell me how it is done, then forget it, I won't do things the easy way either. I am more willing to deal with a person before and after the sale, if they don't act like a Jerk.

I have no problem telling a customer everything I know about a vehicle, but you have to stop and look at things from both sides of the fence. Yes, you aren't usually going to get as much history on a vehicle from a lot as you will an individual, but you rarely get the whole story from a customer either. How many people on here would go into a dealer to trade their truck in and tell them, " I have had 3 chips stacked, or a real hot plate, 3 rebuilt transmisions, 2 turbos and made 150 hooks to a pulling sled"? Not very many. - Nicholas

When I went to trade in my 92 CTD dually for my 2004 3500 SRW I had printed off the internet price for the 04. I let them do the whole dealer shpiel, then he wrote down a price and handed me the paper, $39,900! I proceed to whip out the internet sheet and showed him the "special internet price" of $32,900! You should have seen the look on his face! I can still see it now. He started ranting and raving about the internet guys never telling the salesman anything, it was quite hilarious. He then said he could give me the price, but only $4K for my trade. I also wanted to trade my 2000 1500 4x4 SLT Plus quad cab in, which I still owed $14. 7K on, and he said the best he could do was $9K. Same old story, he could buy them all day long for $7K at the auctions. My truck cost $34K in 2000 because it was a fully loaded SLT Plus, not some stripper cloth interior no option truck, and he just said sorry. So I left the dealer with the '04 for $27. 9K, he ended up giving me $5K on the 92 dually. The only problem now is that next week I will have two truck payments! I hope I sell the 2000 soon!!!!

I have experienced lots of idiot saleman but I will never forget a very good dealer I met back in 84. It was a used car lot in Savanah GA and I wanted a Toyota truck he had real bad. He was getting it serviced before I picked it up and found some evidence the frame may have been damaged. The deal was off there was not way he was going to sell me that truck at any price. I was from out of town, way out of town, and he didn't care he just didn't want to do that to me. What a nice guy.

I have looked at many used vehicles on dealer lots and I am convinced they only keep them there to make the new ones look like really good deals.
