I just switched to LE 8800 oil and when I inspected the turbo boot I saw some dust particles in the boot. So I took off the big cylindrical K&N I had connected directly to the boot and put the stock air box back in. My thought is that I want to go 10,000 miles between oil changes, and I don’t want to chance the K&N letting dust through.
There is definitely a difference in how the truck accelerates. I’ve lost that sudden surge of power I had with the K&N. Now the truck just accelerates smoothly through the RPM range. Before, I would get a sudden surge of power as the turbo spooled up. I miss it. I also miss the sound. It sounded kind of like an air hose venting when I shifted, and I liked hearing the rushing air, or turbo spool-up, when the engine was under load.
I’m bummed.
