Tried to link a phone to the UConnect in a 2011 today. The "phone" button and the "Voice Recognition" button do not do anything when pressed. I called the toll-free number in the Uconnect manual three times and learned that the folks that answer the phone there know nothing at all about the system. The first one told me that the only thing that UConnect can do is control a phone. When I read her the section of the manual about how to use voice prompts to change radio stations she said no, it doesn't do that. She said if the phone button doesn't do anything when pressed, you do not have the required software installed, need to purchase it from the dealer, she didn't know what it costs. Call number two, basically the same, if the button doesn't work, the truck doesn't have UConnect. Third call, the lady said to remove the fuse and do a hard reset. No luck with that either.

When I turn on the ignition key, the radio displays the Ram logo with "Uconnect" under it, The window sticker lists the Uconnect option, and I received a UConnect manual. These things are leading me to believe that it is infact installed in the truck.

Called salesman at the dealership and he really didn't know much about it, said to try to bring it in next week and they would figure it out, but it's tough for me to get there before the service dept. closes at night. Anyone have any ideas?

Does it have the Nav radio?
When I bought my old '10, I had to buy another piece to use with the non-Nav radio. The non-Nav radio is "U-Connect Ready"
The Nav Radio should connect right up.
If I remember correctly, a sound played after hitting the button, to let you know to start speaking.

to connect a phone you hit the phone button and at prompt say Par ? do you get any type of voice when you do that ?

You might not have that feature in the radio. Our 2010 Dodge Journey has UConnect but not for cell phone. Look around & see if you have an opening on or around rear view mirror for a speaker that is part of the UConnect that you talk into & listen.

Simplysmn, no voice prompt when I press the phone button or the voice recognition button.

JMetzger, the mirror appears to have perforations on the top of it, near where it would meet up with the headliner if you pushed it all the way up.

The point I was trying to make with the first UConnect rep I spoke with was that even if I didn't have the functionality for the phone, should it not still be able to control the radio functions by voice comands?

Maybe it does control the radio, but I've never gotten my 730N (RER) system to perform anything with uConnect other than phone-related functions. I'll be watching this thread along with you to see if I'm missing something.

If you press the U-Connect button, all you can control is the phone.
If you press the voice recognition button, you can control the radio and navigation.
It sounds like some internal setting is screwed up. I would take it back to the dealer and have them fix it.
I bought a new Jetta TDI earlier this summer, and when we drove off of the lot, we had the same problem. None of the voice command stuff worked. My phone would still connect via Bluetooth, and I could initiate phone calls from the phone and talk via the radio. I just couldn't voice dial. After an hour on the phone with VW tech support, they said to replace the bluetooth module.
To make a short story long, even new vehicles can sometimes be delivered broken.

OK, that explains it. I've never tried to teach our 730N to speak Texan. :-laf

Those translations can be difficult. I lived most of my adolescent life in Texas (not that I have grown up much :D).
Was rather sad to leave. Unfortunately, it's very hard for a submarine sailor to get station in Texas, unless I want to be a used car salesman(recruiter).

We have (the wifes jeep) a 2011 wrangler that has U connect. When you push the phone button it should give a voice prompt. Our non smart phones would not link to the unit, the dealer tech printed a compatable phone list for us. now it works fine(after replacing 2 phones),a litte more info for you

Okay guys, now I have to ask... I have a non-Nav radio that has the buttons on the front of the face for the UConnect, but it says it isn't installed... So, does this mean that I need to buy the UConnect module from the dealer, or that it's just not set-up right??? It just doesn't make any sense to me that the buttons are there for something that isn't installed...
Second question... If I need to "upgrade the radio", since the dealership already quoted me $392+/labor @ 1. 5 hours, should I purchase the upgrade to just add the UConnect or would y'all recommend going all the way to the Nav radio???

Mark

when we took our jeep to the dealer with a U connect issue they did a vin search to verify that U connect was installed. our control unit is not the nav radio one

The Nav radio is really nice. I had an 09 chevy SUV that had Nav. I like the Dodge unit better. It is one of the highest rated factory Nav units.
That being said, it is EXPENSIVE.
You have to buy the rear view mirror with microphone, the connection cable for said mirror, and you might as well buy the backup camera.
Once you have it all, you will be very happy with it. I put it all on the purchase order for the truck, so I didn't really pay for it, it was part of the truck price.

Just an update,

Truck went back to dealer a few weeks ago and tech replaced a faulty "module". After that was replaced the voice prompts for making changes on the radio began to work and i could get into the setup menu to pair a bluetooth phone, but was unsuccessful in pairing a Blackberry, iPhone, or TracPhone LG400G. I found this message on another board, see post #332.

2011 RHB Nav-Update available? - Page 12 - Jeep Wrangler Forum

Followed the instructions and loaded the update from flash drive. The UConect returned a message that it already had the latest version, but when I tried to pair the devices again, they were recognized.

Edit: Used file for US mid-large vehicles
