No speedometer and abs

Picked up truck late yesterday. Speedo works. Everything else that required speedometer is working (ats commander, pac break, cruise control). The carrier bearing went south big time. With damage there was no way to tell if it was primary cause or if tone ring came into play. Thinking it was abs and going on trip was a gamble that could have left us in middle of mountains broke down. Just before getting off freeway coming home there was a noise and I now know what it was. Had to get truck towed and then get 5er towed, all within a mile. Heres picture of damage.

Well at least it is fixes, at quite a price I imagine. Yes I think your very lucky where it all let loose. I sure hate it when the root cause is not known.

David, it could have been worse. The axles were good without damage. It ran $2200 including having my power steering rebuilt. That had been leaking for a while and was scheduled to be fixed when we got back from trip. There were worst places that this could have happened, so being close to storage yard was lucky. We were on some crappy mountain roads and if it went south there could have really been in trouble. Like you I wish the primary cause could be determined. Again thanks for information in trying to get to cause of speedometer going south.
