Hi brothers in the oil,
I went to start my truck yesterday and nothing happened. I had then once before and changed out the 48RE transmission "what gear you're in" signal module and thought I was fixed. Funny thing is when this happens, my EDGE Evolution doesn't show power either which is plugged into the monitor plug under the dash. I fiddle farted around shifting the transmission and turning on and off the keys but still no starting of the starter. Then the EDGE lit up and it started! TADA! My truck has worked fine ever since. BUT it did this before and I hate problems to fix themselves because they can come back when I'm miles away.
Any ideas? I've thought about the ignition switch, ECM module, transmission switch again, replace new starter for elimination or bad connection somewhere. It hits me funny that I didn't have power to the EDGE and might be a clue where to look. Power to it returned and it started. It starts and runs with EDGE plugged in or out. It has never died once started. Does the starter have an ECM signal set up too? By the way, no P codes produced and was clean.

Thank you again, Herb

Or the computer hiccuped. Seeing more of this with our older trucks

Hiccup! Ouch! If I give it a drink will it help? Has anyone have the starter relay go TU in the Control Module? I'm just trying to know the full layout before next time. It's such a bad feeling to be broken down in the boonies due to new electronics.

I have thought about the ignition too. I wonder what the electronics needed to replace it? I'll have to check that out also. I'd be nice if the key part is separate from the switch.

Thanks guys

The power at the data link connector is hot all the time. Not related to the ignition switch at all. When it goes dead check the other items on fuse 11 (IOD) to see if they are also dead. Sometimes the IOD fuse just needs to be re-seated.

All vehicles are equipped with an Ignition-Off Draw (IOD) fuse that is disconnected within the Totally Integrated
Power Module (TIPM) when the vehicle is shipped from the factory. Dealer personnel are to reconnect the IOD fuse
in the TIPM as part of the new vehicle preparation procedures and then disconnect it again until new vehicle delivery
to the customer.
A laser printed fuse layout map is integral to the TIPM cover to ensure proper fuse identification. The IOD fuse is a
20 ampere mini blade-type fuse. The fuse is secured within a black molded plastic fuse holder and puller unit that
serves both as a tool for disconnecting and reconnecting the fuse in the TIPM cavity, and as a fuse holder that
conveniently stores the fuse in the same cavity after it has been disconnected.

Hi Sag2!
Nice write up. I'll be checking this out and reseating the fuse. If I run into the no start again, I'll be seeing if the other items are dead. It seemed to me that not much was lit up and no radio playing!

There was a programming issue with the 06 TIPM's that would cause something like this, thou I think it was fixed by 07.

The power may be hot at the OBDII, but if the monitor doesn't see the key on it will stay dark. Try unplugging and plugging it in with the issue to verify power.
