On an '02 H. O. bone stock, when cruising down the road, it sounds like a clacky old diesel out front, at any speed, but when you put on the cruise control, all the diesel noise goes away, touch the gas pedal, noise is back, so on and so forth. So the noise appears to be linked to the drive-by-wire electronics. Anybody have this problem? It's become more noticeable over the last couple months. Thanks,

Brian

engine noise through gas pedal

Did you ever get a response to your question?? I just got a '99 and have been noticing the same thing. . Mark

Throttle related noise

Mine does the exact same thing. It would be interesting to hear any opinions or causes. Doesn't seem to affect anything.

The engine is 'drive by wire', but the problem is that there is a cable from the pedal to the Accelerator position sensor mounted on the injection pump. When you step on the pedal you take up the slack and the result is engine vibrations transferred through the throttle cable. It is the same thing as the old two soup cans and a piece of string making a childs telephone.

I did some looking at the system-soup cans is the perfect analogy. . There is almost a half inch slack. . I'm going to try twisting on some little o-rings to take up slack and maybe with some "squish" the sound won't transmit as well. .
