have a problem that maybe someone out there can help me with?? was cruising at approxomatly 75 mph in 6th gear, engine got very loud as if a rod were knocking, puffed out a bunch of blue smoke, then quieted down and smoke stopped, but has lost power, and has a slight miss under load, i think maybe a injecter went bad. idols smooth, but louder than when i first got the truck, oil pressure is ok, pretty sure there is no internal engine damage, think loud noise due to too much fuel dumped in one cylinder, no check engine , or service engine lights came on? will be taking to service garage on mon. but would like to know what is ????
any help is appreciated... .....

A couple of guys in Oklahoma had the same problem... but they where pulling 20Klbs of hay each when it happened.
You are describing very much what happened to them. After this incident they had no power to pull a load.
The dealership told them they both had blown the head gasket by number four cylinder on both trucks.
I gave these guys the address to this website so that they could get info or share info... I do not see them on here yet. They do work a lot and have VERY limited access to the net.

A happier note, The George Foreman Grill is now available in different colors.
Now you can Grill with a Grill that matches yer truck.

LOL
And I bet a few of you thought I got fried by my Grill huh?

Anyway, I am eager to hear about whats happening to these trucks as I am seriously pondering an order... after the bugs get worked out and the 'torque' gets delivered at a more managable RPM range then what has been seen on the dynos with these trucks.
High revs, low torque means low fuel mileage.

Ready for the flames.

billblanton: Were you towing or running empty? How much mileage do you have on it? Please keep us informed.

drivingnotdreaming: Do you have any other details on the Oklahoma guys? What did GM do about it?

Anyone else heard of similar problems? I sure don't want to buy a Ford but at the same time, I don't want to waste $35K+ and listen to my husband swear for the next 20 years. He's scaried to death about those aluminum heads. He has worked for GM for over 30 years and never saw where aluminum heads would hold up past 80k miles without blowing head gaskets or cracking cylinder heads.

I got word of this while I was in northern Texas. A fella with a Dodge was at a GM dealer in OK just east of Borger TX and was looking at a DMAX to add to his fleet of cattle haulers. These guys run hay in KS and OK... from what I understand they have a fleet of trucks out there including Ford, Dodge and GM. I only spoke to Mike briefly on the cell phone from Borger and gave him this address to see if he can get help or not.
He told me that GM had to have a rep go to the dealership to pursue this further.
One of the trucks had just turned 8,000 miles.
They both had the Allison.

Mike, if you are reading this, please comment here for us ok?

Grillin's good if its on a GEORGE FOREMAN GRILL!!!!

For you new guys, Drivingwhilegrilling used to hang out here often when the "Battle Zone" was hot. He is a Duramax basher and his comments are suspect. Let's see if he can produce these two guys he mentions and the dealer examining the trucks. You will also get tired of his endless promotion of the GF grill.

i have only 500 miles on this little girl,& i love the truck, enjoy driving the truck, don't believe it is the heads, i still think it is a fuel injector that has failed, i am a mechanic, on much heavier equi, not real familer with this set up, but i do feel it is a fuel injector! if any one knows any thing please let me know, and as for monday she is going back to dealer, and i will diffently keep every one posted! i just really hate this has happened, had hoped as long as it took for me to get the truck, they (GM) would have worked out the bugs
oh well i'm sure it is not a major thing,,
and i was running empty!

APR2000, never once did I bash the Duramax... go back and reread. I am one of the few that has praised the DMAX and am leaning towards owning one for my company.

You probably own one of those pc o' poop Hamilton Beach wanna be grills too.

When it comes to shelling out the dough I gotta know.
And letting you folks know about this mishap is one way of learning.

Cheers

maybe you deep fry instead.

TO DRIVINGNOTDREAMING
YOU ARE A VERY ANGRY SMALL MINDED JACKASS. . YOU ARE MOST LIKELY RELATED TO THOSE TOOTHELESS PSD AND CUMMIN DRIVING PEOPLE THAT PULL UP TO ME AT A STOP SIGN AND ASK ME "HAVE YA EVER RACED ONE OF THESE" AND I ANSWER THEM BY SHOWING THEM MY TAILIGHTS FROM A VERY FAR DISTANCE. . FEEL THE LOVE

What a bunch! #ad
Yea, I can feel the love... And they wonder why we're a closed board. #ad

Just thought I'd remind everyone what a great group we have here. #ad

It remains to be seen whether the Duramax WILL amount to anything or not - but it's pretty obvious that MANY of the guys posting over on that site ARE losers! #ad

They delight in aiming jabs at Ford and Dodge owners - but IMMEDIATELY get hostile if their abuses are countered by a non-GM owner - and the moderators will let THEIR guys get by with murder in terms of abuse of other brands - but will quickly delete the post of anyone DEFENDING non-GM brands, and will just as quickly drop the registration of those they feel are "too controversial" for their group...

SOOo, dunno what they figure is better - a CLOSED group like this one - or a "GM cheerleaders ONLY" group like theirs, with NO tolerance for info THEY consider anti-Duramax... SHUCKS, they even attack their OWN guys if they show up with a concern or complaint about a problem with their trucks - talk abot having their heads buried in the sand - or elsewhere... #ad

but the 24v seems to have it's fair share of "Oops, we just forgot about that detail" problems. I love dodge trucks, but this reality ticks me off, I need a new truck for work, but I need something that will last too. (note: I am not partial to any other manufacturers, just making an observation)

There is nothing wrong with the 24v. I have one of each now... 24v and 12v. I love both.
The thing I don't get is why waste your time on the GM site?

Well, I was actually looking to see if that stupid 'bumper pull' post was still there or not and found that there are private forums on that board (you can't even read them).

I was trying to see if they had changed to a completely closed site and found that topic and decided to see what it was about. When I saw the way they were sniping at each other, I decided to share with the rest of the group here and rather than risk posting a link to another pulled thread, I posted the text instead. #ad

Additionally, I also go there to get a good laugh once in a while... #ad

I agree with R E Miller up above - I like to keep up with what other manufacturers are selling, but I want the TRUTH and accuracy, not just a bunch of brainless brand-cheerleading only intended to give fans a warm and fuzzy feeling! I've owned Fords, GM and my current Dodge - liked 'em all, had a few problems with each of them at one time or another, but nothing earth-shattering or enough for me to start a boycott of the company #ad

I own a Dodge now, love it - but shucks, if I won the lottery, who knows WHAT brand might next be out in my driveway - *I* am dern sure not so foolish as to turn MY back on a good truck just because I don't like the brand name on the fender!

These folks who are so thin-skinned and block-headed as to take offense if any DARE suggest or point out flaws in their chosen truck DESERVE the bad ride they will likely end up "enjoying" due to their own obstinant stupidity...

WELL, *I* like to keep informed of what/how other makers are doing with their stuff, and what the customers think - so I read several groups to see what's going on.

I read the one quoted in the post below that I have just sent to one of the administrators of The Dieselpage. I don't really expect any meaningful reply, but expressing an honest viewpoint can't hurt!

====

As one of your contributors in the Deiselpage Duramax forum put it:

"The only way that inherent problems can be remedied is to bring them out in the open so that intelligent people can discuss them. IMHO these problems will be fixed only if GM is aware of them and responds to complaints. Then we all benefit. I don't expect to have problems with my new truck when it gets here, but if I do I should be able to discuss it openly without being considered to be flaming GM. Forums like this should be taken as a valuable resource to GM. "

SO - are you going to ban HIM from your board the same way you are OTHER members with pointed - but honest - questions and comments - and as you did ME?

Treating those of us who post to your board with genuine interest, even tho' we express strong scepticism over what WE view as unproven technology, will NOT prevent whatever the eventual TRUTH may be from surfacing - either simply out in the real world, OR in other, less abusively controlled boards. AND, as the post above reveals, turning OFF the flow of BAD occurances only HURTS in the exploration of causes and cures of real problems as they surface...

WHY would you so aggressively, determinedly, pursue that course of action? You CAN'T stop the truth from being expressed - or questioned - just because you ban it from YOUR board, any more than you can stop the Sun from rising just by pulling your bedroom shades!

THAT'S the way *I* see it! #ad
