I agree with Gene. I have received several e-mails from non-members so I really don't want to stop that. My delete key works real good for junk so that's no problem.

I would have been more than willing to help this guy out with the registration process, But when you look at his reply that he sent me, don't you think it's kind of shady the way he said "benefits ?" I think that I was pretty honest in my reply in saying how much the TDR can benefit himself. I guess I have started a real controversy here, and for that I am sorry because the very last thing I want to be is someone associated as being a "bad member". I just saw it as a slap in the face having him ask me to post messages for him, and made no reference at all as to how to do it himself. If he did have the best of intentions of joining, I never saw it in his E-mail (both of them). I just didn't think that he deserved a free ride.

Noone from the TDR has heard from this guy at all up until this thread. Both myself and Robin (TDRAdmin) sent him an email today to see if we could help - haven't heard anything back so far. The TDR also looked back through the records and have no record of anyone from that email address ever having attempted to register. It's not that hard to get ahold of the TDR - the phone # is listed in the back of every single issue and they do answer it.

Also on the homepage, 2 options up from "discussion forums", is a highlighted link "How do I become a member"... . sounds shady to me guys, Maybe it's just me...

Since posting on the site, I noticed an increase in SPAM and debated removing my email address for this reason. Instead, like Brandon, I just delete and block the best I can.

Nonmembers too have contacted me however, none have ever asked me to post for them and I remain neutral on the email blocking for the following reason:
I received an email from an automotive instructor from Long Island who has an interest in diesels and wanted information on the LI Chapter with hopes of a field trip for his class. His email was polite and afterwards thankful for the information I provided.

This person, “I have been trying to register to get on this 'web' site since brfore Christmas. ” is full of bunk.

Let us not let one rotten apple spoil the bunch.

Steve and Robin,

This person has contacted me on several occasions. Each time I've tried to walk him through the process and each time I get back difficult to read replies. Basically, he avoids anything I have to say about being a paid member and just repeatedly uses different approaches to try to get access. Each time I've explained that TDR is a fee based system..... with no result or more difficult to read responses that avoid the subject of subscribing or paying.

Boy!!! As much as I hate to say it, I've got to agree with Gene on this one. #ad
I've had people contact me for things they were curious about and have had a few even e-mail me with an answer to a question I've had. Alot are in the service and stationed over seas so I want them to have my address... ... . Pete

I have had 2 seperate times that I have posted with problems that non members have taken a lot of their time to offer help as the problem was something they were good at. That help was very much appreciated and very useful so I for one have benifitted from having my e mail there for all to see. I would like to be able to turn it on or off as I wish whether non members can see it.

Uh, thanks Pete, I think!
How come when people agree with me they always start out by saying,
"I hate to admit it, but... "
Noone has to apologize for seeing the light!!!!

i too had a lot of problems with user name password, etc when i first joined. it took about a month to get it right. in the meantime, i sometimes e mailed members with questions about my 12 valver. i usually stated that i had paid my dues and was not yet a member. the respsonse that i got was great. if i had heard that until i was a recognized member i was on my own, i probably would have said the heck with it. as far as im concerned, the 35$ is for the magazine, not the right to post. the advice that i received before i became a dues paying member helped me to make the decision to join. lets not forget that customers are what keeps any business afloat, when future customers are not treated well, the the business will not be around much longer.

The new version of the site, which launches June 1, will get rid of the confusing and time-consuming process we currently have. Unfortunately while UBB is a great piece of software (for the most part) for open boards, its awful for closed/membership based boards.

Everyone at TDR admits they don't like the current process. In addition to delivering a much improved site (with lots of new goodies) on June 1 we're going to automate as much of the signup as possible. Don't worry, you'll keep your current threads and postings!

Just another point of view. I found this web site and was so impressed I joined immediately so I could enjoy all the benefits. I did have problems though getting registered so I could post. Not sure what all the problems were and take credit for at least part of them being my not quie following all the guidelnes. I got very frustrated with the delay but Ken very kindly came to my rescue and got me legal. It has been a very rewarding experience to me to be able to view all the other members experiences and is well worth the $35. Now if the dealer could just find my new 01 that is lost in the transportation system somewhere I would really be happy.

fabulous site

I trolled around for over a year to find out just exactly what kind of site i was getting into and i will be honest that im glad i didn't just jump in but read and read stuff from the site and finally decided that $35. 00 was minimal to the info i was going to recieve and trust me this site has kept many a dollar in my pocket and out of the high priced dealerships hands and with that i thank all TDR Members :)

Oo. Great site and something tells me that were not the only one's that have benifited from this site, take the dealerships that are actually there for the customers and their service departments that go out of there way to help a dodge owner, do you not think that they know what this is all about and they know how serious we are about our Cummins powered Dodges... I could go on and on but i will end it there... ... ... .

I certainly have enjoyed reading this site very much and enjoy what many of you have had to say. However the sometimes the politics get pretty bad and there's a awful lot of folks who don't know what the heck they're talking about, and lots of questions get asked many times over when all a person needs to do is a simple search for their answer. Couple this with the $35 charge for 4 magazines and posting privilages, on a site with banner ads, which is mainly a discussion forum by the paying members with little, if any, information posted by the publishers and owners, makes me not want to renew my subscription. There are plenty of sites on the Web where discussion forums are free. I think we all desirve more from a site where paying members do all the contributing. They should be paying some of you for for the information you provide.

Sorry to hear you feel that way... Maybe you should cancel your subscription... I, for one, am happy to pay $35 for four magazines and the ability to ask questions and find answers to many things on my 2001 CTD. Believe me... the $35 has been paid for many times over. I will subscribe to this forum for as long as I own a CTD... Have fun...

I did a search on something like "moderator duties" and came across this one as I was sifting through the results.

I kinda like digging up old timey threads... brings us back to the old classics and reminds people that if you've got a question about it, chances are someone else already asked it! ;)
