Anybody coming to oceano dunes?

July 19th NorCal Picnic: Directions to E.G. Park

Depending on a couple of issues to be resolved, I will be there.

Hopefully, ladies and kids are invited.

My son has recently joined the diesel nerds with a '98 12V. Maybe he can make it.

1. Perhaps someone can establish a definite time.

2. Do we bring our own goodies only?

3. Do we bring samplers for others?

4. Are there enough tables?

5. Do we bring our own pit?

Although Discovery Park sounds great, another thought is Coloma.

This is where Gold was discovered. There is a museum and other sites to see. It's about 15 minutes from Placerville. They have Tables and pits.

As I recall, you can spend 2 to 4 hours just looking at the sites in the park.

I think they also shoot the rapids there.

Wayne:

I am just offering suggestions, and I will leave everything up to the rest of the group.

I will be bringing my old busted up propane grill and also my two burner 100k propane stove for the corn and to heat up the chili.

I have no preference either Coloma or Discovery Park, might want to see what those travelling up the valley or from the Bay area have to say about that.

Of course the families are welcome, thats what these gatherings are all about, mixing our trucks with our families.

I plan to bring a rib-eye for myself and maybe some marinaded cilantro-lime chicken to share with others, I say bring your own entree and maybe something to share with others as in the way of salads, beans, etc if you so desire.

I also will bring my 120 quart ice chest to keep the sodas chilled.

depending on the group size, we may need additional grills for the meats.

Sure wish Jeff would chime in here as I don't want to step on any toes, me being

THE FORD GUY!!!!!!!!!!

lets get some more input and finalize this within the next few days so we can get this out to the other websites.

got a PM from Jeff last night, he has been tied up with a medical emergency with his Dad the past three weeks, he gave me a phone number to contact him, but it is always busy, as well as he is too busy to answer emails as well.

Just found out today that they are holding boat drags and racing events July 19 and 20 in Old Sac on the river just below Discovery Park, the river area anywhere near Sac should be an absolute zoo, the races are being advertised on Channel 3 (Sacramento).

Do we want to try to get a spot for a BBQ in Discovery Park and then go watch the boat races (they will not be visible from Discovery Park), or try some other place?

again, these are only suggestions.

Anywhere's Fine

As long as the temp doesn't exceed 69. 5*F, and the humidity is less than 20%, the draft beer is no more then 33*F, the women aren't allowed to wear long pants, and Kickin' brings his deuce and a half down to give us ridesOo. Oo.

I talked to Jeff earlier today and he said that a week or so after our last breakfast that he checked out Discovery Park. They were booked up for quite a while and he was unable to get a reservation. Hopefully he will post tonight. Do any of you know of any other places that we might be able to get into? Sounds as though Sac will be very crowded. Possibly in the foothills? I am not very familiar with the Sac area.

I know that it is getting late to start new plans, but if any of you have any more suggestions...

Let's all keep Jeff's Dad in our prayers for a speedy recovery.

Hello all, sorry for the inactivity on my part but as has been said my dad had a major stroke and has left him unable to do much for himself. Yesterday was the first time in quite some time the computer was even turned on. I think this just strengthens the need for us to get a core group or board, if you may, to make sure if something happpens to one the group doesn't shut down. As far as the group goes I'm very determined to make it work but at the same time no one knows what tomorrow may bring and as I hope all agree family must come first. I will try to get our list of names e-mailed to everyone on our list soon and hope you all can get together a month or two without me. I'm hoping to get it set up that my sister can come up to stay with my dad in Oct. as I would really like to attend the Tulare show and have it be a big group gettogether but that's all i'm planning at this stage. thanks for the well wishs and hopefully I'll be back at it soon. Jeff

Sympathy

Very sorry to hear of your fathers health. Been there, done that. Both of my parents (yes I had parents) died of cancer : ( Not a glamorous way to go.

That's why I don't have a problem spending money on my truck and going cross country to race. You don't live forever, make the most of each day;)

Steady as you go mate, things are going to get more complicated and challenging.

Lawsons Landing by Dillon Beach?

You can camp or just do a day thing. Pick up a few hundred oysters from Hog Island Oyster Company in Marshall, catch crabs off the pier, fish, or feed the sea gulls (not near my truck though).

Bummer about the stroke. Unfortunately health problems are something we all have experienced with our parents, family, friends... . or will some day. Live life to the fullest, it is too short.

Someone suggested Coloma where Sutter's Mill is located, but also just down the road a mile or so is Lotus Park right on the American River, lots of parking and nice clean place. Jump in the water to cool off on a hot day.

Jeff, sorry to hear the news!

NorCal Picnic? (Breakfast)

I am a new 03 owner and TDR Member that is thinking of coming to your July event if possible. I've noted that you are having trouble nailing down the date and location.

Since I live in Elk Grove here is some more info. on the Park. E. G Community Services District is the local parks & rec. jurisdiction, however years ago Sacramento County got control of the park, so that's who you have to deal with if you want to make reservations for the larger Picnic facilities like "Rotary Grove" Obviously the smaller picnic sites are first come first served. Some time ago the vehicle entrance fee was $4. 00, it may be more now. Of course there's no parking on the perimeter of the park. The nice thing is the 200 year old Valley Oaks provide great shade. Since I haven't been there recently I'm not sure of the condition of the fire pits & tables. I'd heard the County was falling behind (while still taking your money!)

Here is a link to the official map. http://www.egcsd.ca.gov/parks/harvest/egparkmap.pdf

And here is the "official" info. on how to make reservations for Rotary Grove if you think the group is large, i. e. 50, 100 or more:

120 acres of lush landscaping and vast recreational possibilities await you at Elk Grove Regional Park. The park features picnic areas, a lighted softball field and an Aquatics Center. The majority of the park is owned by Sacramento County, but the CSD accepts reservations for the swim area, Grey Diamond, and Picnic Areas 1A, 1B, 9A, 9B/9C. Rental reservations for Strauss Island, the Pavilion, Rotary Grove and all other picnic areas must be made with Sacramento County at 875-6336 or 875-4794.

E. G. CSD info: Elk Grove Community Services District Administration Building 8820 Elk Grove Boulevard Elk Grove, California 95624. Administrative Services: (916) 685-7069

Parks and Recreation: (916) 685-3917 or (916) 684-7550

Coloma Park is neat too, if the folks want to drive up (east) on US 50 to Placerville then north of town a few miles to the State Park.

Perhaps someone can nail down the date, time, and location. We'd like to join you (I'm guessing wives are permitted), but I need to get the date on our schedules!!!

John :)

picnic

I'm up for the picnic, as soon as the time, date and location is decided on. As a fairly new CTD owner, I'm looking forward to getting together with some of you more experienced fellas.

How many of you could still attend a picnic if it was pushed back a week and also be willing to make a trip into the Napa Valley?

I am not at work today, but just realized I have the perfect venue for a weekend BBQ if they will let me do it at work.

The California Vets Home in Yountville ( 9 miles of Napa on SR29) has a great picnic grounds and softball and horseshoe pits, volleyball area, rest rooms, just need to see if they will let us do something like this and it may take a few days ( nothing moves fast at the State)

I should know something by Tuesday evening

Ram Runners Meeting

OK everbody, the San Jose Ram Runners monthly meeting is scheduled for tomorrow the 15th of July at the same ol', same ol' place. That being the Coco's rest. just three blocks west of freeway 17 (to santa cruz) on hamilton in Campbell.

Led Zepplin is scheduled to be on the entertainment list as well as the Miss Hooter Girl competition finals being judged that night. As always, there will be free lap dances, complimentary well drinks, and a $10,000 dollar door prize. Bikini wax practice starts at 6:30, don't be late : )

Well, we are having too much trouble getting this one pinned down. I would like to suggest that we utilize Elk Grove Regional Park this weekend and keep the original date. Big Jake, Yountville sound like a beatuiful place for our next get together. I am sure that most of us have set aside this weekend for this and that it will be easier for most to keep it. A trip to the beach sounds like a great way to spend another weekend, and set some time aside to get to know each other even more.

Elk Grove will also be centralized (for most of us) and sounds as though it would be easy to find also. So, in order to keep the date and get together I suggest that we go here. I hope that this is good for everyone and we can set the next time and place at the same time.

I am not trying to be pushy, I just want to see us get together and time is getting short. I am not Jeff, but I will try to fill in for him in the interim. I have not seen any ideas here that have not sounded great! I just want to try and get us all together.

Does that sound good to all of you?

NorCal Picnic: Elk Grove Park - 7/19!

Hi All,

I'm in! :D How could I not be, this is in my "back yard"!

I understand you want to do it this Saturday, 7/19! I see from the posts both a breakfast and a picnic (lunch) was mentioned. What if we nail down 9:00 to 10 AM arrival that way some folks can set up for a late breakfast and others do a early picnic lunch! This way most of the "event" will be well before the late afternoon heat!

If you all want to stay with this Saturday, we might have a one-time added bonus right across the Freeway from the Elk Grove Park. This is where the new E. G. Auto Mall is located. The dealer I bought my 03 from just moved into brand new facilities 2 weeks ago and I believe this Sat. (7/19) is their Grand Opening. Would anyone be interested in a CTD Caravan across the 99 Freeway for a group tour of the Dealership perhaps at 11 AM?

If you are, I could contact the General Sales Manager (who I bought my truck from) and set something up for us... . Perhaps I could finagle some special 1 day parts or service discount offers while they are in their Grand Opening mode! (no guarantees here. ) Let me know ASAP about the tour idea!!!

If someone wants me to check with the Park CSD for available picnic facilities, please tell me what size group you usually get!!!

John

I can do this Saturday in Elk Grove. 10 AM - ??? PM would work pretty good. The added bonus of going to an full blown park, my girlfriends little kids will have something to do to keep from getting bored :D
