I have an 04. 5 3500 4x4 dully, QC, SLT, 325/600, 48RE, with 3. 73 rear end.
What is the normal operating temperature for a 48RE transmission?
On the road running @ 1850RPM, 68MPH empty, my temp was running around 140/150. If I do a lot of stop and go driving in town it will go up around 170. Last week I took it in to the shop, so the district manager and his tech could look into why I was getting poor/inconsistent fuel mileage. They did not find any thing wrong, but on the way home (30 miles on the highway) I noticed that the transmission temp was @180, rather than the normal 140/150. Yesterday, I drove it to Home Depot about 2 ½ miles and before I got home the trany temp was up to 180. The trany was hotter than the water temp. Any ideas?
