Well folks,

don't look good over there. The NK are restarting their reactors for no other reason than to make plutonium for weapons.



When Bush said that he world was a dangerous place when running for President, this is what he ment ... others tried to sweep it under the rug. Well it seems now (like with Iraq) the chickens have come home to roost.



What would you say our best course of action would be with the NK's? Should we just pull out of the peninsula all-together (since the SK's don't seem to want us there either), or should we stick it to 'um?

SK actually wants a stronger military alliance than they already have from us. They know if we leave that they'll get run over in no time. Also, the reactor is supposedly only a 5 megawatt research reactor and operating it consumes around 75% of the electricity it produces. Plus, they don't have enough fuel rods to operate it for a substantial period of time. Time will tell.

I think we are a little crazy in pulling oil exports to them and giving them a perfect excuse to fire there reactor up! Is the Bush administration right in the head?????

If we try to interfere with NK it will get China on our back, something we really don't want to happen.

Do you think China would attack their largest customer defending NK? Without our money, China would be just another 3rd world hell-hole.



We could pull a quicky raid like the Israelies did on the Iraqi reactor back in 1980.



Giving NK oil was just paying blackmail money ... ("here's all he oil you'll need, just don't build any nukes with the reactors we are helping you build") ... please were we that stupid in the 1990's to believe the NK was not going to start a weapons program with the reactor technology we were going to give them.

I've actually heard that the leader of SK wants to open up relations with NK.

As they say "those who forget history tend to repeat it". Prior to Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor the US cut off oil shipments to Japan - thus the attack on the US. The Chairman of the FED raised

interest rates to slow down inflation - the result was a major depression - companies closed-millions thrown out of work- the economy crashed ! sound familiar - this occurred in 1929 and 1999/2000- A new president and a war brought the US out of the depression !



If the US was smart - they would provide the oil and the food for North Korea - as Nk is totally falling apart. When people or animals are desperate and cornered they will attack to survive-



What we don't need is 2 wars to fight at the same time- Of course "nothing is impossible for the person who doesn't have to do it". .

Ben, if you want to NUKE them then get yourself over here for the Light Show! I need someone to drink with after I start glowing. I was here back in 1995/1996, not that much has changed since then. The North still suffers from floods that ruin crops, they don't export much since they are so isolated from the rest of the world as far as realtions go. NK wants the U. S. to sign a "non-aggression pact" we have no reason to believe that anything they sign will be followed, i. e. the treaty they broke by building nukes. There is no easy solution here, the NK's Army/Special Forces outnumber us and the SK forces by a large margin. A war here would be very bloody. If we were to pull out, then China would be in a very good location to exert it's power over the other Asian countries that can't defend themselves w/o our support.

The NK's are just trying to extort money from us again. We caved in in the early 90's, when the threatened to produce weapons grade Plutonium, and provided them with oil, food, and money. Now that their goods have run out, they want to take another dip into the extortion well. Bush said last night that he wasnt going to pay. Good for Bush. He also said that Japan and other countries in that area will have to deal with the NK's. This will free up our military to take care of Saddam.

The leader of SK wants the Americans out (or at least strongly gives that impression) and wants to open relations with NK, as theyre running around in the DMZ with machineguns.

Selling them oil is profit, not extortion. Why is everyone so eager for war? Is everyone that bored? Don't use 9/11 for an excuse anymore, I didn't see any N. Korean names on the list of highjackers. Of course I didn't see any Iraqie names either. Of course Bush says they are both part of HIS axis of evil. He can sit on his axis and rotate as far as I am concerned! I had hopes he was going to be a good leader. He hasn't shown me anything yet!



N. Korea is a larger threat than Iraq, but you catch more flies with sugar than vinegar. We need to get out of the foreign relations buisness, Bush and his administration are no good at it!

I agree with part of your post.

I assume you dont think the NK's restarting the reactor, and removing inspectors, monitoring equipment etc. has anything to do with us halting oil into NK??? The timing is too fishy, and I'm not that 'naive.

I'm sure the whitehouse is privy to much more info than we gather here on the net.

I agree with you on some of the foreign relations issues CF, however if something like this is left un-checked like this, it may lead to a bigger problem down the road.

Like Clinton not doing something over all the indicators(USS Cole, bombings etc. ) pre 9-11.

I think that the US pulling oil exports to NK was a PERFECT excuse to start that reactor. If we were being threatened by another super power, I am sure our goverment would be looking for a deterent in the same position. I do think the NK goverment is corrupt and stuck in an old party way of thought. They are starving their own people. Just like Bush they are taking the peoples minds off of hunger/economy by threats and actions of war.



Bush has called for the approval of a nuclear retalitory action against NK and Iraq. This type of threat cannot be taken lightly considering our status and saber rattling. The administration has more info, but they are caught in a obselete thinking process also.



The Cole was another thing all together and another time period. I don't think Clinton did anything but agree to sell oil to them, to deter them from their nuclear plants and make the world a little safer. Everything is a negotiation, if you cannot do it, then war is the only option. War costs money and lives, negotiation costs only time.



What we really should be doing, is opening the borders between NK and SK and selling the NKs some Big Macs. After they get a taste of good ole capitalism, they won't want to go back. Look at China since Hong Kong, they are moving towards a capitalist society in leaps and bounds. I say trade, don't bomb. It takes a whole lot less lives and promotes the same results.

The Nuclear Retaliation you say Bush is suggesting against NK is false. He is suggesting that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission takes action. Get your facts straight, and stop your Bush bashing. The NRC has met and is suggesting some course of action, unknown what. Watch CNN and other leftist TV news agencies. They have even reported on the EXTORTION that NK is attempting. But then again, in your eyes, the NK are probably just practicing good capitalism, and we capitalist pigs probably turned them that way. Eh, COMRAD CF????

I tend to think that the population of China dont see things as rosey as you do CF. Sure, theyre better than they were say 20 years ago, but they have a looonnng way to go.

I like your idea of "pied pipering" the NK's into a fun loving capitalist society, but even if we dropped free big mac's and whoppers from a B-52, I dont think it will change them much. I dont even think super sizing would help.

The Cole (and the other terrorist attacks-bombings) WAS NOT "another thing and another time period". It was the prelude to where we are now. A warning shot that should have been seen for what it was, but enough of 20/20 heind sight.

Mr. Dalton, Mr Bush told the world that nuclear action against Iraq and NK would NOT be out of the question if weapons of mass destruction were a possibility. Am I just imagining these storys?



Most of the world is veiwing Bush as a war monger. His campaign against Iraq is only gaining momentum because of as you would say "extortion" of pulling support and funds to the countrys in question. I have yet to see the UN inspecters find anything, yey we are calling out our troops for war anyway. It is a personel thing for Bush, it has nothing to do with weapons of mass destruction. Its plain to see, yet NObody wants to open their eyes!



How may I ask is the US Cole attack connected with NK? (I always get the Pueblo and the Cole confused. ). The only connection I can see, is the ship of missles in route for Yemen from NK. This has been resolved as a shipment for the Yemen goverment which is another of our so called "Allies".



I am sorry for causing you to have a moment Sdalty. If you did look in my closet you would find many weapons, none with a flower in them, all well oiled and ready! And believe me, if my comander in chief called me to defend my country today, I would be ready. Even if I do think he is an idiot!
