just put a equal plate to the #11 in a 98, forward 1/16" and afc sping kit. Was not impressed with the power increase!!!!!! I messed with the star wheel 5-6 times and still couldnt get it where i thought it should be. Are there any more adjustments or little fixes that anybody knows about that would help? The only other mod this truck has is straight pipe. thanks

There really should have been a significant increase in power. Do you have gauges yet? Boost #'s would tell a little more.

When you installed the plate, did you reinstall the afc housing all the way forward?

We just added a #11 to a 1996 5 speed. It made a BIG difference in power. We adjusted the screw to eliminate smoke during normal driving and we still have plenty of extra power. I hope you get yours working and that you are as pleased with the power as we are.

are u sure it was an EQUAL plate to an 11. TST is the best plates around, they are the ones who figured it all out, ... i believe Joe D. was a big contributure as well. Slide that plate forward, move the afc housing forward, move the star wheel forward, install the boost elbow, ... and that thing should Haul! Which spring in the afc did u put in. The weaker one is quicker HP.

The # 11 should be for 215 HP 5 speed. Yours is 215, 5 speed, right?

Whos plate is this and how is it equal to an 11??

The AFC must be loosened up as mentioned above. It is possible that the AFC control is not even letting the rocker up on the plate. The Piers rocker adjustment is also a good idea.

the truck is a 98 5 speed, 215 hp have gauges and get 30# max the afc housing is all the way forward. the plate is a bully dog plate rated at 285hp the star wheel is backed off about 12 clicks from nothing. the afc spring that i put in was the medium one. No matter where you put the star wheel I get minimal smoke. The egts are also hi, can't drive a 5-6% grade, empty with out hitting 1250:{

Power

When you installed your afc spring kit did you adjust the screw that touches the diaphram in the afc housing? Make sure that the screw is pushing on the diaphram and not just barly touching it. If you turn that screw in a couple of turns it will smoke pretty good on acceleration. The next thing would be to check the small line that comes from the intake to the afc housing and make it is tight and not leaking. Check your clamps on your intercooler tubes to make sure they are tight and not leaking. Always check the simplest and easiest things first!!

I adjusted the screw to just touching the diaphram, will it make that much differance to screw it in one or two turns?

Afc spring

If you turn that screw in two or more turns it will give you more pre-boost fuel to get the turbo to spool up alot quicker, it will make a big difference on acceleration. Oo.

With my tst 11 full forward, I am getting max ~35psi and on 6% grade ~1100*@80mph empty. Light AFC spring, no boost screw in two turns (increase spool up and smoke), starwheel 2/3's forward, AFC full forward. K&N in stock box. 4" exhaust. All else stock

First check boost leaks then ...

Try plug the waste gate and see if you get more boost that may help. If so maybe the boost elbow isn't right. maybe the waste gate isn't closing all the way

All I have is the 11 plate and satisfied... for now(more is on the way) :)

jared1,

You and I have essentially the same truck. I have exactly the same plate you do. A year a go last spring I had that plate in the stock position, an Amsoil foam air filter, gutted the cat, put in the medium AFC spring, boost elbow, and had the pump tuned and timing moved up a few degrees. It dyno'd in SLC at about 254 hp as I remember. Ran great.

Since then I've added a bunch of stuff and dyno'd at 350 and 360 on 2 different dynos this June.

From what I've learned, these plates are pretty darn close, if not exact, to TST's #11. Keep fiddling. Do Pier's lever adjustment as others have suggested. May want to put in the GSK too. But you'll want to increase intake air and exhaust flow to control EGTs soon.

With the #11 all the way forward, light afc spring, intake/open exhaust, my truck turned 313hp/666tq. Something is not adjusted properly if you are only getting 30psi max boost... You should be able to push 34psi+. Do you still have the stock air filter/box?

Add some 191's, back the plate 1-2mm off from full forward, and you can try to beat my record 48 PSI from a #11, 191's, boost elbow and straight pipe!!:D :D :D Oh, one more thing... At 48 PSI, my HX35-12 lasted 7 days from the time the 191's went in!!! I had more damn smoke than I knew what to do with... . I was like, WHOA, This is cool!!!!

Jared1,

What elevation are you driving at? With about the same setup, I am only getting 31 psi, but I drive between 5,000 and 8,000 feet. I was very happy with the power increase, but my EGTs are pretty high. Time for exhaust and intake.

charlan, how did you get that much boost? are you running the gsk? i can only hit 33. 5 psi with a grounded stock plate (equals #0), plugged wastegate and the such (still the 181dv's though). no plate is a lot more fun that something like a #11 plate!:D

I think i'll try the lighter spring and screw the adjustment in a little. I thought the governor lever was ok but i'll check it again. Would adjusting the valve lash and advancing the time help and bring the egt's down. need better air flow too!!!!

No fuel = no power. . Did you happen to check the fuel shut off solenoid?? I`ve come across a few that the solenoid was pulling apart and only pulled the fuel shut off lever up far enough to get the truck started and had limited power no matter what you did!!

Just my 2 cents... Garth

k, need to check air filter, if u are running a stock one u will get higher egt's, more smoke top end, and sluggish do to slow power and slow boost. Slower the boost = slower power, because boost pushes afc spring and throttle. also, di u check for leaks, need to put cap and hose over air inlet of turbo, put air fitting and 20 psi, and listen. or put 3" pvc and pug it, air fitting and then push it into boost hose and listen. Boost leak will raise egt's, slower power and boost, . . boost leaks can be really bad for loss of power and boost leaks can happen real easy, and the small ones u can't hear with the engine running, . . Good luck, . . Reb

I am like only 800 ft above sea level..... 30-31 was what I got at first, then started tinkering with the toys!
