I now SWEAR by the TorkLift setup now days. When the wife takes notice on something I do as actualy being positive, well, you just can't put a price on that.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread :D

One thing EVERYONE seemed to overlook is how the "weight" rating of a pickup is done... IIRC, to get the ratings, they have the weight within 13" of the front of the bed... the weight of the load is right behind the cab!! Not spread out over the entire floor of the truck... albeit a slide in does place weight towards the front of the truck because of the overhang... it still adds some weight clear at the back too.

I agree with the later statements about the COG issue... I think it is simply a "safety" thing to prevent someone from flopping their rig over onto it's side... but I have one and just this weekend drove by a corvette that was upside down... hmmmm... maybe we shouldn't worry about the truck as much as we should worry about the driver???

I think you hit one the head... most of the newer campers are just too heavy for even 3500s (going by paper), but they carry them just fine...

LOL, No problem bringing this back to the surface. It's funny, I don't post much here anymore and I've gone from checking this site dozens of times a day to once every few weeks (I've been busy with other things) and all of a sudden today, I figured I'd check the site again and here is this old thread! Too funny.

Well here we are almost a year later and I still haven't heard of any frame issues. My trucks are all working fine including my dually with another camping season hauling the Bigfoot around. My thoughts and position on this subject haven't changed unless anyone can demonstrate "statistically significant" frame failures on these trucks. After re-reading all the posts on this thread, I guess I'd just say that for those that can't figure out why DC would have such a warning unless, in fact, there was a real issue don't deal with big business' legal and risk assessment lawyers and staff (or any other bureaucracy) on a regular basis.

Cheers,

Dave

Well I too have a 2500, 4x4, Short box and had the disclaimer. I traded in my 98. 5 (same size) that I hauled my slide in camper around in for 5 years. I told the dealer my intentions to do the same and they said no worries. My camper is light (8' Northstar pop-up, about 1600 wet) and even asked the dealer if they would install the tie downs... . no problem... they would even do the in bed 7 pin wiring... . but when all was said and done, I had a different guy do it (the folks I bought the camper from) just because I really trust them and they have done A LOT of installs, whereas the dealer said "I'm sure we could figure it out"... haha NO WAY!!!

They also told me that they didn't have a truck on the lot that did not have the disclaimer (and they had maybe 30 in stock, 2500, 3500, short, long, dually, mega, quad, hemi, etc... )

Anyway, my camper goes with me and the boat follows..... maybe someday people will abide by speed limit signs too... . :-laf

I've been hauling my 9. 5 Northern Lite for a year too. No problems at all. Just touches the overload springs and I don't exceed my GVW either. :-laf
