I have a 2004 Dodge auto transmission and after looking on the engine, I determined that it is NOT a 2004. 5 model. Then last night I was reading TDR issue 71 and there it said the "Tow/Haul" switch came on the 2004. 5 models. I have the "Tow/Haul" switch on the gear shift lever but it is a 2004 model. So now am confused. Did they install that switch ONLY after the 2004. 5 models or on the 2004 models as well? Did I get something that should not exist? Tell me, what model do I really have?

What messages do you see on the cluster when you operate the switch? It is says "O/D OFF", you most likely have a replacement switch on the shift lever. AFAIK, the "tow/haul" which did not disable the OD, was an 04. 5-'05 esclusive.

With some changes the factory will use up old stock and then switch to new stock. That can happen earlier or later than you expect. Or the original stalk was defective and replaced with a newer style for no particular reason. They're probably interchangeable.

I bought the truck brand new from the dealer with less than 50 miles on it in March 2004.

When I push the button on the end of the gear shift I get the "Tow/Haul" light on the dash and it drops out of OD and slows the truck down. I can downshift too. It is almost like having a "weak" EB on the truck. I can be doing 65 on the freeway and then push the button, the tach will show the RPMs jumping to around 2600 and the truck will slow to 35 on it's own as I leave the freeway as the tack shows the engine slowing down.
