I wanted to be able to tow a bigger 5th Wheel, and my 2500 was just not going to be enough for it. I ordered a 2005 3500 SLT DRW QC LWB 4X4 Deep Molten Red Pearl Coat, plus upgrades, today, and I think I got a good deal on it. Here are the particulars:

Dealer Cost ($37979) minus $1050 dealer discount, minus $1500 Chrysler rebate, minus $1000 Chrysler finance, minus $500 Farm Bureau. The total, out the door price will be $33929 (plus tax and license).

This was better then the deal I was offered from that special place in Spokane, and I get to pick it up locally, in town.

They also offered me $21500 for my 2001, but I'm going to sell it myself as I need a truck for the next couple of months, and I can do better then $21500. I'll post it for sale on the TDR first, to see if I can sell my baby to a fellow TDR member before going to the general public.

Now I have to set up a new truck and get it ready to tow in a couple of months.

If you want the local contact for this dealer, in Tacoma WA, PM me. Sales rep says he will do this deal for others... . :D :D :D

Auto or Manual transmission?

6 speed manual (the new G56 one). They said I could still order the nv5600 but I'll bet that option goes away as soon as they use up their stock... :)

Wow Tacoma Dodge just laughed at me when I tried to get them down to invoice plus rebates back in Nov of 2002 I ended up at Dave Smith who got me down to 649 under invoice plus rebates. I can't believe Tacoma beat Butch's deal at Dishamn. In case you don't know about the local chapter of the TDR we are at:

Good luck with the new Rig you got a great deal hope to meet you soon... . tom

When I went in to look on Monday, I would have bet you that they wouldn't have done this deal either. First of all, they had a truck that was pretty close to what I wanted, and the MSRP sticker was over $42K. Just to get your attention, they had a second sticker saying the dealer wanted $4k more for it (total of $46K). I went in and talked about a deal, but I didn't have a quote from Dave Smith or Spokane, and they were all over the place plus additional cost for documents, advertising, etc. I told them that I had the dealer invoice cost, and that I was also going to get a quote from Dave Smith and Spokane, They were aware of both of these dealers and they said they would beat any quote from them. I really didn't believe them.

Got the quote from Spokane, and after a little confusion, got one from Dave Smith (it wasn't built the way I asked for). Took it back in to Tacoma Dodge and they immediately said they would beat Spokanes discount off dealer cost by $50. I said I would do the deal as I would rather buy locally then go to Eastern Washington, or Ketchum Idaho. Placed the order and that was that. I think Dave Smith would have beaten this offer but they kept trying to sell me one they had in stock. Don't know why they just didn't do a build for me and give me that quote. Oh well... ;)

FYI Dave Smith is in Kellogg Idaho not Ketchum. They usually get certain style trucks built up and like to carry them and keep them moving through. My truck was an odd build truck that was refused by a customer because the window tint was wrong there loss was my gain.

Tacoma must need some sales numbers that is a good deal to beat Dishman. Anytime you get one under invoice plus rebates you are doing great! I think on that cost of truck the dealer holdback is between 1600 and 2K so they aren't making much money on the deal you are just another number on the sales chart. You are smart to sell the old one yourself you will do a little better than that especially if you have extras. If you pay cash for the new truck you will probably be that dealers least profittable sale that month :-laf

Did you need to put much good faith money down?

Yeah... I meant Kellogg... It's getting late... :)

Gave them $500 deposit which is refundable if truck is late, isn't right, Chrysler changes cost, or rebates don't happen (not likely). I have 5 days from the time Tacoma notifies me that the truck is in, to pick it up... I think I can make that... :D :D

By the way... the dealer hold back was $1250.

That sounds a little low to me that means they are making 200 bucks on your sale I find that hard to believe.

You sound like the sales manager... :D :D He said the same thing... He said it will cost him $70 to prep and fuel up, at delivery, and $100 to the salesman. That left him with $30 profit.

I think there are other "kick backs" "special dealer payments" "quota payments" that they also get. In fact, the salesman gave me his card and told me that if I referred any of my friends, and they bought a truck, he would pay me $100 per referral. Now I'm not a math major, but if he pays me $100 what is left for him out of this "so called dealer profit. "

Another fact: The "so called" dealer holdback is $1250 on this vehicle. Dave Smith rep told me that they would sell me one for $1500 back of invoice plus rebates. They wanted me to buy one that they had in stock, so I never got a firm quote on a build price. In fact, their last email to me said that if I could get one at the price I did, I should probably do the deal.

Don't know all the ins and outs of the dealer business, but I can tell you I have a firm quote and order number from the dealer. Will have a VIN number in a couple of weeks... . :D :D

Rick - What option package did you order? We are looking to order a new truck also and for the same reason you did. I would like to get all options available including 4x4 & satilite radio. We also have a 2001 to trade or sell. Thanks for the info and lots of luck with your truck. Sounds like you got a good price.

Larry

I got an equally good deal on a loaded SLT, LB, DRW, 3500, 4-dr, 6-speed manual, just about fully loaded. Only difference, I wanted 2-wheel drive.

Out the door at Dodge City of Milwaukee for $32013. Very plesant folks to

deal with. Salesman named Tex.

Larry... It is a pretty fully equipped SLT without leather, GPS, power pedals, or high priced radio. I could tell you the exact build but I don't think that's all that important. IMHO here is what you should do:

1. Go to the internet and build the truck you are looking for. The Dodge site, and Kelly Blue Book are good sites but there are more.

2. Once you do that, you will have the MSRP and FWP or "dealer invoice. "

3. Get a quote from one of the more popular sales guys that are on this forum. Tomeygun, Butch Wilmes (Dishman Dodge in Spokane WA), Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg Idaho, or others. Make sure they give you a build price and not something they have on the lot, as you need the exact build you want and the breakdown when you go to your dealer. You need to know what they will sell less then invoice, and know all applicable rebates (right now Dodge has a $1500 general rebate on the CTD, and a $1000 rebate if you finance through Chrysler. Even if you are paying cash, or want to use your own financing I would get this rebate. You only have to make three payments then you can pay it off, or refinance.

4. Take that to the dealer or fax quote to several dealers and negotiate from there. They may say no, but a lot will take your business to meet quotas, or whatever. They can do it because they essentially have nothing in the vehicle. When it comes in you will have 5 days to pick it up (at least that what it is here in Tacoma WA). If you don't pick it up they can sell it, and you most likely will lose your deposit. I put $500 down to order mine.

5. If they won't deal, then find one of the guys (listed above) and work with them. Dave Smith will even give you airfare to their dealership to pick up your new truck. I've heard Tomeygun say he would pay for your gas to come get one from him (don't hold me to that one).

6. Don't be intimidated by the sales people. Remember, you're the customer and you can always walk. Don't let them tell you that there are additional fees for their advertising, document prep, vehicle prep or anything else. They don't have any advertising money in your truck except for the regional advertising that is built in to the quote, by Dodge.

7. They offered me $21K for my 2001 but I knew I could do better. I already have a tentative offer of $25K.

If you don't do this you will never know if you got a good deal or not, cause they do this for a living, and they know how to make anything sound good.

Have fun... :D

I have ordered and bought two new CTDs from Tacoma Dodge, one a 1997 and one a 2004. 5. In both cases they matched or beat quotes from Dave Smith. The thing is to know exactly what you want and what you will pay. Some of the sales people do not know much about diesels and options and are poor salesmen. . see the sales manager and he will get you fixed up without much hassle. In both cases I took two visits to consummate the deal. Remember they will not lose money on the deal so don't be backward about going for a good price.
