SNOKING;2435622 One of the MaxBrake's major features is that for most people you set it once and it works for any trailer you tow. However YEMV! Snoking[/QUOTE said:
I have heard this about them, Harvey swears by them and he should know. I always wondered about that tho. My little 1500lb car trailer with 10"x2" brakes needs 10 gain empty v/s my 5k gooseneck with 12"x3 3/8" brakes needs 40 gain empty. I always set mine on the high side loaded but then it is jerky when I am in stop and go traffic. If there were better places to mount them where you could see and change them on the go would be nice. Under the dash sucks.

I like that location way better than mine under the steering column, totally blind while driving. Do you kick it at all when you set the e-brake? How about the hood and e-brake release, clear it ok? I need to take another look at mine before hauling season.

One may not have to recalibrate the Max Brake for every trailer they to but the GAIN most certainly DOES need to be changed for each and every trailer. That is another TDR propigated myth about the Max Brake.

There are 2 "settings" on the Max Brake. Once is the calibration between the sensor and output and the other is gain. Once the sensor is calibrated then it doesn't ever need calibrated again (as this is between the truck and MB), but the gain varies by trailer and it should.

The Max Brake can be made to be jerky as well, but that means the gain is too high. The great thing about the Max Brake is the gain doesn't have to be set high to get adequate braking at higher speeds.

I run a variety of different trailers and they all take a different gain to brake properly.

I just answered my own questions and mounted my controller where you did Snowking. Thanks for the idea, I just stole it lol It only took me 12 years to change it....
