So planning to swap the D350 with a 5600. The 518 has not impressed me. lol

On my 4wd swapped trucks, I have used the speedo signal from the 205 as factory did. But the 2wd 5600 has no speed sensor to pull from and with no 205...

Anyone know of a way to generate a speed signal for the speedo and cruise/pcm?

Thanks!

Robert

Have you considered using GPS for the speedometer? Dakota Digital has a unit, probably others as well.

I had considered it knowing their were companies out there with them. Just I travel a lot of remote places and have sometimes had sketchy signal on my actual GPS so would hate to rely on that. Its why I was hoping to go mechanical.

In the spirit of it's yucky outside.

Cruise control. A cable throttle lock! My 1952 Willys M38 had one. GPS and hand throttle, cool!

That big black knob sticking out of the dash, click click yup that's it. My jeep had a T handle 1/4 turn to lock.

Is it possible to put a tone ring with sensor on the drive shaft yoke like all of the big trucks use to signal their speedo?

They use a simple set up even on mechanical trucks.

Do you care about keeping the ABS? if not try using the tone ring and sensor already in the rear. my person thought is that the ABS on our trucks is pretty worth less any way.

No help from me. I'm still wondering why, if it's so remote GPS doesn't work, Robert's concerned about how fast he's going. I didn't know you had all those overdrives to drive the posted limit.;)

Yeah the tone ring is possible. I agree the ABS isnt that great in these trucks. lol

@AnonEd
hahahahaha. Valid. Have sometimes driven an hour without passing a car!

Signals are different between the ABS and VSS, not sure what it would take to convert the tone ring to what the SBEC wants for a speedo signal. If nothing else could probably get a DD speedo that could be calibrated to the rear tone ring signal, just some bit fiddling.

cerb

Dakota digital does make the signal processor for conversion of abs to VSS. It is an option for sure. Just wont have ABS....

Why would ABS be lost? Does the DD unit replace something rather than just using the ABS signal like the odometer does?

Not that the ABS would be a great loss but IIRC one can just use the ABS signal as a source for speedometer signal.
