I did several searches on this didn't really see what I am experiencing. First truck has 107k on it, trans oil was changed about 12k ago with Pennsoil. I also replaced Clutch Hydro unit with SouthBend one about 7,500 miles ago in preperation for putting new clutch in this spring. Current clutch has no slippage at all not even when plowing snow. Today for some reason it all of the sudden became very hard to shift into reverse from either 1st or 2nd gear. Sometimes when it goes in it will actually jump the truck like your popping the clutch. Would this be the hydro unit? or clutch? I would think if the clutch was going it would start slipping first correct?

Oh once this started I adjusted the clutch linkage out 2 turns to see if that would help and didn't.

Thanks for any help on this...

:)

New Clutch time, sounds like it to me. But if you were expecting to change it out anyway, I would, then you will know for sure.

Have you bled the slave cylinder again? Might be worth a try. If that doesn't help then it sounds like the clutch is on the way out. If you plow snow often with it then it wouldn't be a surprise to know it is bad.

I think the all of a sudden might be a good clue, pilot bearing.

Try searching on pilot bearing. If the needles are no longer seperated by their cage, they can pile up and jam in the shell, continuing to turn the input shaft and cause the symptoms you are describing.

The pilot bearing is at the drivers discretion as to how you "spend it" hold the clutch released and in gear while you wait out a traffic light, pilot is being used, active, spent. Select N at a light (conditions permitting) with the clutch pedal up and pilot bearing is inactive, lasts longer.

Thanks for all the response's. Any one have a suggestion on clutch? I was considering the new street dual disk if budget allows, but since the stock one lasted this long I was considering just staying with stock. I tow a trailer once in a while about 7500lb but only 3-4 times a year.

I highly recommend the South Bend OFE. Stronger than stock but the pedal effort is easier.

A dual disk one is unnecessary for what you are going to use it for, would cost a whole lot more, and much more pedal pressure effort is required.

Thanks for the input just called XDP and got a kit on the way. Does the SB kit using their flywheel with the pressed in bearing work better than the stock needle bearing ones? Just wondering, I ordered the 1947-OK which should be fine for what I use it for.

Thanks for all your input!!
