I am wondering if anyone on here might know if dodge changed anything on the 05 nV5600 as compared to an 02? I have the oppurtunity to get a low miles 5600 out of a 05, and I need to find out if it will fit my transfercase and bell housing adapter on my 96 12 valve. I Know I need to change clutch disk. I already the larger Con OFE with the flywheel redrilled for 13 inch clutch. I currently have a Nv4500 that is out of 99 in it. The 4500 is now a 4 speed only cause I lost 5th gear for the third time!!??? Any help is greatly appreciated!! Lowell

My memory is the early 5600 has the smaller input shaft size?. . the 01... I believe it was either 02 or 03 that they went to the larger size input that was used all the way up thru 2005 till they went to the G56 in 05. 5. my $0. 02.

My memory is correct. Found this site in my book marks,

http://www.drivetrain.com/nv5600.html

The 1999 1/2 and 2000 0/2 NV5600 6-speed has a 1 1/4" input spline shaft. Starting in January or so, the revised

NV5600 gets a 1 3/8" input spline shaft and a heavier clutch with a 1 3/8" bore.

So you'll need a different clutch than what your NV4500 has... I've heard mostly all good things from South bend Clutches.

I too Am SICK of my NV4500 dying. I have lost 1 fifth gear and two input gears so far. On my 4th trans (original with the chrysler 5th gear fix). Had the Standard Trans 5th gear fix in both of the transmissions with broken input gears. One with stock power, one with banks stinger cal. (and I have what I call I lighter foot than most).

So I too will either be looking harder for a NV5600 or a G56, or a newer truck with either two in the near future.

Good luck!

Thank you guys for all the info... . I just found out the transmission I was planning to buy is a 2wd unit..... d*^%$t! I don't suppose that it is very easy to change that trans over and make it work as a 4wd???? I guess you would have to chang the main shaft and the back housing?

I put an NV5600 out of an 04 into my 99 and had no problems at all. It already had the wider crossbeam and the longer wire for the 6 sp. I went with the SB Con Ofe and and the 13 inch plate. Love it, best thing I have done so far.

Hey Forrest are you serious about wanting to convert to a 5speed cause I would take you up on that..... I live in san angelo and have a big shopp we could pull 2 trucks into and tear em down... .
