Cummins "600" pulls 230,000 lbs

OK - I'm done for now - but check this out...saluting a 6.9

One comment from the first page: Do we have oil in our intercoolers? That still doesn't seem like a good idea to me?? Regardless of the amount.

Seems like the only thing not giving them problems is the coil front suspension. Why they did not do that 11 years ago like Dodge did is beyond me. Seems like if Ford copies Dodge the problem goes away. Harsh ride, ok, switch to coils. P. O. S. engine, ok. Wise thing to do is switch to an inline 6 :)

I like the coils. Bout time. They would lose market if they switched to an I6. The basic male testosterone ego needs to hear the word v8. Its ingrained from birth. If you gave a man a choice between a 450ci 6 and a 230 ci 8. They would take the 8 cause it sounds better to the primitive mind. Think about it. Only the enlightened few understand the necessity of an inline. Very few.

Yeah, they would lose a lot of market. I am glad only Dodge is using the inline Cummins. You are right about the V8 thing. "Primitive mind"! Couldn't have said it better myself. Actually, most V8 diesel drivers know the six is better, but don't like the way it drives in a pickup. Oh well!

"there's no replacement for displacement" as the ford guys say...

hmm, doesn't seem to be that way in the diesel world does it?

People with big engine say that. People with small high performance engines know better. Its funny. It was all about displacement when ford had the 7. 3. Now that its smaller than the dmax. Displacement doesnt matter. Its all in the eye of the beholder. What do I know. I think fords 4. 9 was probably the best gasoline engine ever produced.

I had a guy telling me that he had to have a 7. 3L Ford because of that statement. I told him that fuel and a turbo make up for the difference in displacement, to which he replied, "Well, I could do the same thing to the bigger engine, and then it would make even more power!" I decided to save the headache and not explain differences in fuel and air systems, and what that might mean in $$$$.

Very wise. I find most people have a set idea and are extremely difficult to convince othewise. Even with irrefuteable(sp?) evidence to the contrary. Like alien abductions. LOL.

I liked this quote from over there- "Sounds like Detroit Diesel is building these engines now. " :-laf

I couldn't complain about the 400 V-8 that was in my '82 F-250 either. It and the 4. 9 both a bore/stroke 4". :) My folks had an Econoline van van with a 4. 9. They got 215k out of it before the rear main seal shelled out. The rest of the van wasn't worth keeping around, so it went to the scrap yard.

You guys are looking at this all wrong.

In a few years we will have alot of reasonably priced NEW(er) vechiles to put our still good Cummins into.

Least that is my plan... .

And the real irony will be when Dodge starts using the 6. 7L Cummins ISB - not ony will the Ram be the only inline-6, it will also have more displacement than either of the V8s :-laf

Did anybody see the thread where the guys Torqshift crapped out after 800 miles. And I thought everybody said Dodge's autos suck...

there is no replacement for diplacement! provideing it can get the proper amount of air and fuel to the mix. . rpms can help to,more rpms =more speed, providing you have the power to reach, and maintain those rpms,if speeds your thing. . does anyone have any info on the 6. 7 isb,or know where one can go and find it?

mainly with the 7. 3, it's the fuel system that's the problem... with the high pressure oil pump system. it can't push the fuel that a race p7100 pump can. so yeah, bigger is better in terms of power, but the fuel system design and difference between I6 and V8 are what warrants that statement to be untrue.

dad has an 04 6. 0 that's been running great (only 3,000 miles  ), besides the dead pedal. just had a friends 03 that had the rear main seal leak since new. at 20,000 miles, the truck was puking out 3 quarts of oil coming back from our northern state college (3 hours away). traded it in on an 04.

oh yeah, and to those guys/gals who think they know everything (like their valves will melt if they straight piped their truck)--not just the powerstroke people either...

"ignorance is bliss"

They been playing with it for a while. Say theyve got an hpop than can push some fuel now. No ones showed their hand but they say its big. Ive been listening to it for too many years to buy into it without seeing it.

them 6. 0's use the same/very similar HPOP heui system too...

yeah but two things...

6. 0 is smaller than a 6. 6 duramax so "there's no replacement for displacement" isn't applicable.

and i haven't heard anything about a seriously modded 6. 0. most seem to talk about which chip is going to cause bad transmission shifting. . whooptidoo.

last time i paid attention psychostroker was running around 550hp on #2 only with a rebuilt, custom 7. 3. beyond that i don't know.
