Vehicle - 98-1/2 Dodge 2500 Ram, 24-valve diesel engine

Problem - ck engine light is on... get link error on OBDII diagnostic code reader

Symptoms - some fluctuation in idle speed... . but steady now

I tried the key trick 3 times on & off (from off to ON to off to ON to off to ON) but don't get any codes on odometer... . just mileage & no blinking of check engine light.

I do have a fuel pressure gauge installed that I purchased from Geno's & it shows pressure 12+ lbs.

Only recent work I did was to remove one of the intake hoses (between turbo & intercooler) that was leaking & left system overnight (did a mouse crawl in?) & then reinstalled the intake hose the next day. Hose was not bad... . clamp had slipped off side of hose... so just reinstalled.

Suggestions???

Update... I took the truck to my local mechanic & he put his Snap-on OBDII scanner & then inputted a bunch info from the truck "label" inside the door & he pulled down a P1689 code. The truck is running fine right now & he suggested that I keep driving & maybe it was just a glitch.

Thoughts?

Well, I've had the VP44 replaced twice in 325K miles. Running fine now & put 80 miles on it today - - will put 50 miles or so on it tomorrow. We shall see.
