I have own the since May and has 3000 miles with 2500 of that towing 5th wheel. Truck weight including every thing about 21000 pounds. Mileage towing is 9.5 to 10 mpg towing and 18 to 19 without trailer. My previous 99 dully did about the same without trailer but 2.5 to 3 mpg better towing with a 2500 pound heavier trailer. Not complaining just observing thought there might be some improvement. All mileage figured with pen and paper.

I met an older gentleman about 3 years ago when he saw my new Dodge then, he said to me " How do you like that new truck", I said "It's great this is my 6th Dodge and this truck definitely has more power, they just keep getting better, but it gets horrible fuel mileage", he turns to me and says "You have to pay to play". I look back at this now and think damn my '93 got 26 MPG loaded, empty, uphill, downhill didn't matter, and every new one I bought since keeps getting less and less. "Pay to Play"

All you 4th w/def owners are getting better than my unladen 3rd from what I've read. My '07 gets the same mileage with the camper as my '98.5.

Look at how much more torque it has though, you can only improve hp/tq so far before mileage suffers. It's the nature of the beast. Coming from towing with a gas engine, I am tickled to death with the torque and mileage improvement.

Mileage claims are very driver/road specific. How you use the right pedal is just about as important as the amount of weight you have behind you. Some (like me), will sit at WOT and a gear lower just to go 5mph faster up a hill, where someone else would stay at half throttle a gear higher, and 5mph slower to go up the same hill. Makes a big difference on fuel economy.
