The odometer in my 2006 quit racking up the miles. It still shows the miles, simply not accumulating them. Also, the trip odo and the overhead trip odo quit working at the same time. I have searched the forums and can't find any help for this issue. Ideas???

This evening I will unhook the batteries and leave it overnight before hooking them back up to see if that does anything.

Did disconnecting the batteries work?

The speedometer still works, right?

Could be a faulty TIPM - seems like they cause a lot of strange problems

There have been lots of other issues with the instrument clusters of 06's. Most are attributable to bad solder joints on the circuit board. If your a good solderer, you could reflow all the joints but you should really be familiar with the proper techniques or you may make things worse.

The speedo works as does the cruise control, have not had any issue with them at all.

Did unhook the batteries overnight. While reconnecting them this morning I noticed that the cables were still loose on the posts after I tightened them. Corrected that problem with a new battery bolt. I just bought this truck and the PO had new batteries put in recently. The posts and cable ends were all clean. Unfortunately that did not solve the problem with the odometer. I am aware that the 2006 trucks had instrument cluster issues. It seems odd that the odometer is lit up but doesn't accumulate. I will check the rear end for the connection of the plugs for the tone ring sensor.

Thanks for the ideas. Still accepting more...

PD,

Found one code with the Smarty, 2509 which was most likely caused by the loose connections on the battery terminals.

Have not checked for instrument cluster codes yet, will do that today.

Thanks! Never run out of things to work on, that is for sure! The '89 is my farm truck. Currently the '04. 5 and the '05 are pulling campers and making money. Hopefully the other two trucks will also be making money soon by pulling campers.

Godspeed,
Trent

It's good to hear that enough people are buying RV's these days for you to keep your trucks rolling. That speaks positively for an economy that's otherwise hard to see the good in.
