You have my interest peaked. I'm going outside today and try it out. I'll report back.

Thanks a whole bunch for you help. Being TDR member for 19 years has paid off in spades and some really nice folks to boot.

I connected today, and found both grid line options not set. Do you mind showing me how to get into the update mode and change them to set?

Thanks a whole bunch for all the help.

Cheers, Ron

Just set them to set with AlphaOBD
Thanks, I succeeded in enabling the dynamic gridlines, however no workie. Reading the transcript between local dealer tech and Star, the dealer tech told Star tech there was no continuity between the camera and the BCM. Both agreed this is how FCA prevents gridlines on the camera. Can't do it now, but I when I recover, I'm going to see if there is a jumper or a way to run another circuit between the camera and the BCM.

Thanks,

Friends,
Appears dealer tech was correct that Cab and Chassis trucks are missing the camera circuit that provides gridlines on the backup camera system. AlphaOBD shows its enabled. So for now, no gridlines. If you look at the schematic, the circuit on the far left is what provides gridlines.

Thanks all for the help and I'll post later if I get this working or move cameras around.

Cheers, Ron

Would using the wiring from a pickup provide the missing link, or is there actual hardware missing?

Have to investigate... is the camera missing the circuit? is this camera part number just used on C&Cs, is wiring missing or just a pin? I'll research to get the answer. Gonna ask dealer tech what test points were used in determining this circuit is open.

In the grand scheme of things, this isn't a critical issue. It's happy to glad. I'm recovering from surgery 5 weeks into 12 weeks recovery so I have time to do it. The fact that the 8.4 Nav has option to turn on and off, locked on, and most of their literature. So, I'd like to get it.

Thanks all for your help.

Friends,

Went through the dealer report completely and found they installed a pickup camera pn 68274731AE on my truck.

Part Number: 68274731AE
Supersession(s): 68274731AA; 68274731AD; 68274731AB; 68274731AC
[ParkView(TM) Rear Back-up Camera], [Pickup Box], [Locking Tailgate], [ParkView(TM) Rear Back-up Camera], [Pickup Box], [Locking Tailgate], [ParkView(TM) Rear Back-up Camera], [Remote Keyless Entry with All-Secure], [Locking Tailgate], [ParkView(TM) Rear Back-up Camera], [Locking Tailgate], [ParkView(TM) Rear Back-up Camera], [Remote Keyless Entry with All-Secure], [Locking Tailgate], [ParkView(TM) Rear Back-up Camera], [Remote Keyless Entry with All-Secure], [Special Service Group].

Fits 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, 5500

Further reading it appears there is an interface jack needed when using this on a pu. I also researched the Body Control Module is also the same on Cab&Chassis and pu's.

So with BCM and camera the same on my truck as pu's, that leads me to believe there is either a pin missing in one of the connectors or the wire is missing for this circuit on the camera somewhere in the Cab&Chassis wiring.

Seems FCA is really committed to not allowing gridlines on Cab&Chassis trucks. I can tell y'all if I wasn't laid up recovering from surgery, I certainly wouldn't have gone through all this trouble to figure this out.

Now, it is going to be a while before I can test the truck wiring to find how/where FCA opened the gridline circuit.

The circuit D403 is listed as LIN Bus, which is a two wire data bus:
https://www.csselectronics.com/screen/page/lin-bus-protocol-intro-basics/language/en

Also, when I had problems with the lines on my 2500 Laramie replacing the camera fixed it. It would seem that if a command over the LIN bus causes the camera to insert the lines into the video, then using a camera that always has the lines on should show the lines.

That matches what dealer said and what the diagram indicates. Next is the workaround to make them function.

Thanks for the input.
