I just got back an oil analysis from Blackstone. This is the 3rd one Ive gotten from them. At least this one and the one from sprt of 2014 are on Red Line synth oil. The first one was either Red Line, or could have been Delo.

What they are calling "location averages" for aluminum is 7.

The first sample I got in 2013 was a 5.

The second one I had from last year was a 6.

This one was a 10.

First analysis was on about 3750 miles on the oil. Second sample was on aoub 4450 miles on the oil, and the last one was at about 4300 miles on the oil.

So, I guess my question is, is 10 bad ? good ? What causes the oil to have an aluminum content of 10?

Just curious.

TRat,

Blackstone has a link displaying a sample report. Position your cursor over the Element metal label and it will display the sources. http://www.blackstone-labs.com/report-explanation.php

I will upload my latest report for comparison as soon as I can find it. Totally stock, and with dino oil; Rotella 15-40. I stopped synthetic a few years back and decided to do this oil analysis stuff. So far I am pleased with the results. 168,000 now on the motor with no appreciable oil consumption; way < 1 qt/8,000 miles.

That is still a low number in the big picture but I would consider it just a tad on the high side for the mileage. My last sample @ 15k and change was 3 PPM. I believe they flag your sample as a "minor" concern at 30PPM so you are a ways off yet from any concerns.

Hard to say where exactly it is coming from, could be aluminum oxides from dirt, pistons, bearings, etc.

If nothing else looks out of place I wouldn't sweat it.

10 is fine and don't pay too much attention to the black stone averages as the are averages of every sample and not just ones with similar oil/miles as yours.
