Gentlemen,
Is there a way to reprogram the computer to change the interval mileage between oil changes? Truck is 2012 4500, 6.7 CTD. Last truck was 2013 6.7 and last change was at 12k miles, not 5k miles. why the difference? Or should I just keep my own mileage records?
Thanks guys

Because 2012 was a different engine design and was harder on oil.

You are chasing pennies while risking a $10-20K engine. If you want to extend the oil drain interval you need to do UOA and you will likely find that the mileage the computer says to change it at is correct. The 6 months is debatable esp. out of warranty, however, when your engine was built Biodiesel was generally less than 5% at the pump. It's higher now in places or at the 5% minimum. This fuel change contaminates the oil and calls for more frequent oil changes as "now" the newer years note with B20.

I do and recommend an additional expense: UOA as it will tell you IF something is starting to go wrong sometimes. Good news when it says nothing.

I agree on the UOA. Not worth risking a $20-30k diesel engine.

I recently did a Cummins UOA (Polaris Labs) on my 2020 EcoD, and man did that put a sigh of relief in the back of my mind. My oil change timing is right on the money. Engine is running happy and very, very clean.

These engines, both the Cummins and the EcoD are extremely expensive to be reckless and irresponsible on the oil changes. (Unless you got disposable income!)

I havent done UOA (yet anyway) but I also do not worry about dumping the oil, I used to do every 5k on my 5.9.. and now on the 20, I do annually... its about 100$ and not worth trying to extend.. ( I have not been driving more than about 5k/year now though)

On all my personally owned equipment, if the hours don't get to it, the yearly oil change happens. Even on my push mowers.
