My 1996 12 Valve CTD gets very little use any more, and it shows less than 80K miles on the odometer. I change the oil every 12 months, regardless of the mileage. I also keep up with the cooling system, transmission, transfer case and differentials.
The last oil change was 11 quarts of Costco's Kirkland 14W-40 diesel engine oil. That's a private label of Warren Distributing. I have one gallon left in stock.
I just checked my storage and discovered that I have four gallons of Delo 400 CI+ dino oil on the shelf! Their plastic bottles are in OK shape, but I probably ought to set each one in a bucket if I'm not going to use them right away. I bought several cases of CI+ oil to have on hand when the controversy over CI+ versus CJ oil began.
Looking for advice, keeping in mind that the engine isn't used heavy any more:

- Should I use up most of the Delo 400 CI+?
- Should I mix the Delo CI+ with a gallon of more modern Delo or Royal Purple full synthetic oil? The idea here is that maybe the synthetic will leave a better oil film between startups.
- Should I mix the Kirkland with the Del0 CI+
- Am I just overthinking this?
